Light rain likely in Delhi tonight, to increase tomorrow onwards

February 2, 2013 4:34 PM |

Delhi will be witnessing a wet period from today onwards for next two to three days as a strong Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching the region and would arrive over Jammu & Kashmir possibly on Monday. Rain will intensify over the northwest region along with Delhi gradually as the weather system (WD) would come closer to these parts. One or two places in Delhi could even receive heavy rainfall accompanied with a hailstorm.

The sky in Delhi will remain cloudy to partly cloudy with winds blowing from southeast to east. The minimum temperatures would rise by 2 to 3 degrees during this period. The maximum temperature would dip by 2 to 3 degrees during the period. Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh will also witness the same weather conditions of rain at many places and hailstorm at one or two places during the next few days.

The hills in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh would witness intensification in snowfall and rain from Sunday onwards. Many places in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and a few places in Uttarakhand will receive snowfall and rain during the period. A few places in Jammu & Kashmir and one or two places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand could receive heavy to very heavy snowfall as well.

A trough of low pressure area from the Arabian Sea to southeast Rajasthan will form a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat to Rajasthan that would usher in rainfall activities over Gujarat, Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours.

The areas with below normal minimum temperatures in the northwest region as well as Indo-Gangetic plains could even witness dense to very dense fog as there would be plenty of moisture due to the presence of southwesterly to southeasterly winds during the next 24 hours. Fog will abate from northwest region due to rise in minimum temperatures. Fog will limit itself to central Uttar Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar thereafter and reduce after the next 48 hours.
