January 14, 2015 4:22 PM |

Srinagar Widespread, yet light rain in Srinagar in last 24 hours has finally ended 45 days long dry spell. Rain also gave rise to minimum temperatures, finally giving some respite from the sub zero minimum temperatures that residents of Srinagar have been witnessing for over 40 days till now.

Srinagar recorded a low temperature of 2.7°C on 14th morning, up by 2.5 degrees from the previous night's temperature of 0.2°C. While the minimum temperature on 13th was -1.6°C, it was -3.1°C on the 12th and -3.4°C on 11th December.

The city has been witnessing a prolonged dry spell with only light rain received on 8th November and trace on 28th November 2014. Widespread rain in last 24 hours not only graced Srinagar with its presence but plains of North India too.

Winter season this year has been highly disappointing for Srinagar amidst no snowfall and prolonged weeks observing sub zero temperatures. Usually winter season kickstarts with fairly good amount of rain in December which was not the case this year. Looking back, the similar pattern of complete dryness in December was last witnessed in 2005.
