In the last 24 hours, Northwest plains continue to brave bone-chilling winters. The cold day conditions continued to grip many parts of Punjab, Haryana and, extreme North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. The day temperatures were recorded between 13-16 degrees over most parts of the region.

The national territory, Delhi recorded day temperature at 15 degrees Celsius. With these figures in hand, we can say that the maximums are almost six to seven degrees below normal.

According to Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining areas. Since it is a weak Western Disturbance, thus the plains of Northwest India will not be affected much in terms of rains. However, parts of foothills of North Punjab and North Haryana may witness isolated rain and thundershowers today, somewhere during late evening hours.

Also, chances of isolated light rain and thundershowers cannot be ruled out over North and Northeast Rajasthan, extreme South Haryana, Delhi, and Southwest Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. These rains, if happen, will be for a very short duration and will be of less intensity.

Talking about fog conditions, then the visibility remained poor across the region, with several places reporting nil visibility.  Some places of Delhi even witnessed visibility levels less than 50 meters. Few places in Amritsar, Agra. Shri Ganganagar, Ludhiana, Ambala witnessed nil visibility as well.

As the day has progressed, little improvement in the visibility level is seen. Also, it is expected that the marginal rise in maximum temperature can be recorded over the plains of North India. By tomorrow, December 21, a further rise in temperature is expected.

Also, a Trough is running from the Northeast Arabian Sea to Southeast Rajasthan which will further lead to a rise in maximum and minimum temperatures especially over Rajasthan and adjoining areas.

Our experts have to even say that even Delhi will witness a rise in mercury and fog conditions will also improve on a marginal account. While Haryana will continue to witness moderate to dense fog. Marginal improvement in terms of fog condition may be seen over Punjab. However, the southwest parts of Uttar Pradesh may witness a rise in both day and morning temperatures.
