Heatwave conditions continue to grip parts of Maharashtra, particularly Vidarbha. In fact, North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have now also come under the influence of heatwave conditions.
However, as predicted by Skymet Weather, light thunderstorms and thundershowers occurred in some parts of Vidarbha, but failed to drop the temperatures. Thus, the temperatures across most parts of Vidarbha continue to remain near 45 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, the maximum temperatures ofWardhasettled at a sizzling 45.8ºC, Yeotmal 45.5ºC,Akola45.3ºC,Amravati45.2ºC,Nagpur45.2ºC, and Chandrapur recorded the daytime high at 45ºC.

Some parts of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra also reeled under heatwave like conditions with the mercury in Parbhanisettling at 44.8ºC, Malegaon 44.8ºC,Bramhapuri44.6ºC, andJalgaon 44.2ºC.
This rise in the mercury can be attributed to the northwesterly winds blowing from the hotter regions of Pakistan and adjoining desert state of Rajasthan. As of now, Skymet Weather does not foresee any major change in the temperature profile. In fact, the mercury levels are expected to witness a further rise.
However, a north-south trough is extending from Uttar Pradesh to South Interior Karnataka across Vidarbha and Marathwada. This trough would oscillate towards east or west and would possibly give some pre-Monsoon activities over parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra and in isolated pockets of South Konkan region in the next 24-48 hours.
Districts like Nagpur, Akola, Parbhani, Nanded, Wardha, Sindhudurg,Kolhapur,SolapurandVengurlamay get to witness these spells but since these activities would be in latter afternoon, it would have any impact over temperature profile.
Meanwhile, North Konkan includingMumbaiwould continue to remain dry.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
Farmers are advised to complete the harvesting of summer green gram, groundnut etc. Also, farmers should irrigate the fruit crops, sugarcane and other crops considering the soil condition, temperature, evaporation rate etc. In Konkan, there is a possibility of incidence of stem borer on cashew nut and mango plants due to the onset of Monsoon. Farmers should use a light trap for the collection of stem borer and destroy the collected insects by dipping in insecticide solution.
Farmers should also prepare land and other factors necessary for the Kharif season.
