Light rain in Kolkata to persist, comfortable weather likely

After July, August is the rainiest month for Kolkata during the Southwest Monsoon season. The city has already clocked 273 mm of rainfall as compared to its normal average rainfall of 345 mm.

After the first week of August, no good rains have been observed over Kolkata, only light to moderate rains with isolated moderate showers have been going on over the capital city of West Bengal. We can say that these less rains have led to the rain deficiency over the city. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kolkata recorded patchy rain to the tune of 0.5 mm.

Further also, in the coming two days we do not expect much rainfall activity. Only light rains would make an appearance over Kolkata. Therefore, August is most likely to end on a rain deficient note for the city. In fact, actual rainfall figure may not even cross 300 mm.

Due to the on and off rainfall activity over Kolkata, weather conditions are also expected to become comfortable. The maximum temperatures are expected to settle in the low-30’s and minimum in mid-20’s.

As we enter September, the intensity rains of also increases. While Monsoon starts withdrawing from parts of North India, but Kolkata continues to record good rainfall. In fact, September is the rainiest month for the city.
