Due to the trough of low over Comorin-Maldives region and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean, during the last 24 hours, isolated light to moderate rains occurred over the southern parts of Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala.

However, few districts of Kerala recorded good rain showers such as Perumbavur in Ernakulam recorded 69 mm of rain, followed by Kochi 37 mm, Chalakudy 32 mm, Neyyattinkara 30 mm, Karipur 28 mm and Hosdurg 25 mm.

Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, Valparai recorded 20.6 mm of rain, followed by Palayamkottai 10.0 mm, Pamban 2.8 mm, Adiramapatnam 2.3 mm, Kanyakumari 0.4 mm and Thoothukudi 0.3 mm.

Now, further we expect reduction of rainfall activity over entire southern peninsula and weather will become almost dry. However, South Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala may still continue to receive isolated light rains with one or two moderate spells.

But the weather over rest parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will remain mainly dry. In fact, Chennai will also experience dry weather conditions with generally cloudy sky.

Further, from December 28, isolated light rains may once again commence over most parts of South India i.e. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Meanwhile, North Interior Karnataka and Telangana will continue to remain dry.
