Since the last few days, all the three hilly states of North India have been receiving rain and snowfall activity. Last 24 hours were no different and many places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains. These widespread weather activities even led to the blockage of Jammu-Srinagar highway.

Meanwhile in Uttarakhand, only the extreme higher reaches such as Kedarnath, Badrinath etc. received snowfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Banihal recorded 25 mm of rain, followed by Qazigund 14 mm, Jammu 10 mm, Shimla 3 mm and Dehradun 1 mm.  During the last 24 hours, many places received snowfall activities such as Shimla and Mussoorie.

However, these widespread rain and snowfall activities led to significant drop in night temperatures over most places of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In fact, places such as Katra, Banihal, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kullu, Shimla observed drop by 6˚C to 10˚C.

The day temperatures also over remained below 5˚C and cold day conditions were witnessed. Thus, we can say that the diurnal variation was less than 5˚C over most places over the hills of North India.

Now as this weather system is clearing up, we only expect isolated light rain over few places over the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Moreover, tomorrow onwards, we expect weather to completely clear up and sky will also become clear. Therefore, we also expect significant rise in day temperatures by 6˚C to 10˚C but night would continue to be chilly.
