Delhi/NCR is likely to witness yet another spell of winter rains on Wednesday and Thursday, more authentically on the former one. Like the previous spell on last Saturday, the showers will be light and scattered in nature. The weather activity will happen quite late in the night and may spill over to the next morning on Thursday, for a brief period. Dense fog is likely to continue for the next three days during morning and forenoon hours.
A western disturbance is marked over North Afghanistan and Pakistan region. The system will reach the Jammu & Kashmir area late tonight. An induced cyclonic circulation will come up over North Rajasthan and Punjab regions, with an east-west trough running across Haryana and Delhi. The circulation will move eastward to Southwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining North Madhya Pradesh, the next day. This feature will trigger rain and showers, albeit light and intermittent over Delhi and the suburbs.
The change in the wind pattern will once again raise the night temperatures. Simultaneously, presence of clouds restricting sunshine and windy conditions during the day will drop the day temperatures. Yesterday also, airport observatory Palam recorded marginal cold day conditions wherein the minimum temperature was under 10°C and the maximum temperature was restricted to 15.5°C, about 4°C below the normal.
Cold day conditions are announced when the minimum temperature is less than 10°C and the maximum is at least 4.4°C below the normal. A severe cold day is declared when the maximum is at least 6.5°C below the normal, which is not very commonly seen in Delhi. The minimum temperature is likely to be in double digits for the next two days. Mercury is expected to dip to about 7°C on the weekend.
