Delhi region witnessed very light rain in some pockets, yesterday. Palam observatory, Delhi University, Ridge, Pusa, Pitampura observed light rain and drizzle. Rainfall at all these places was just 1mm or less. The base observatory at Safdarjung did not receive any rainfall.  Similar conditions are likely for the next two days and a dry spell, thereafter.

The cyclonic circulation of remnant low pressure is now marked over North Madhya Maharashtra and Southwest Madhya Pradesh.  Trough is extending from this system to Central Uttar Pradesh. This feature is likely to shift to Southwest Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours. This is keeping the moist easterly stream over the Delhi region. However, the core of the monsoon trough is quite far and Delhi remains on the outer peripherals of weather activity.  This feature will move eastward, literally at a safe distance from Delhi and whatever little monsoon activity now, will cease with 29thonwards.

The southwest monsoon will prepare for withdrawal, sometime next week.  The absence of rain and clouds and a fair amount of sunshine is likely during next week. Mercury level will rise to the high 30’s, hovering around 37°C.  Days are likely to become hot and remain so for about 10 days, before the autumn cool sets in.  To start with, the nights will have a nippy flavour from mid-October onwards.  Practically, the monsoon rains are over for Delhi. The month of September will finish on a satisfactory note. The record observatory at Safdarjung has accumulated 193mm of rainfall in this month, against the monthly normal of 123.4mm.
