Delhi has been witnessing dry weather for quite some time now. However, the only few good spells that the city has observed was during the initial days of the month. During last 24 hours as well, the city has failed to witness any showers.
There does not seem any significant weather system prevailing over Haryana, Rajasthan and nearby areas including Delhi. This is the reason for reduced rains over the National Capital and adjoining regions.
The average monthly rainfall for Delhi stands at 129.8 mm but till now, the city has just recorded 69 mm of rains. At present, Delhi is rainfall deficient by 15%.
Moreover, the dry weather which is prevailing since September 2 is likely to continue over the region for another 3-4 days. As of now, not much rains are foreseen for Delhi.
This is basically due to the change of wind direction. Persistent northwesterly winds are prevailing over Delhi and NCR. However, the moisture level is still on a higher side.
This is the reason for the ongoing dry weather over Delhi. As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough which is at present over the foothills of Himalayas is likely to shift southwards towards Delhi. This would lead to increased rainfall activities over the area. Thus, scattered rains are then likely to lash the National Capital along with the adjoining regions by September 12 and 13.
Sky is expected to remain mainly clear with bright sunshine. A steep fall in temperatures is also expected early next week. Gradually, minimums are likely to fall and nights will be comparatively comfortable.
