Light monsoon showers may cast a shadow on Independence Day celebrations in the national capital. The grand show at Red Fort, a bit early in the morning, may escape any disrupting spell during the Prime Minister’s address to the country. The cloud cover and mild breeze will provide some comfort, amid highly humid conditions, to the attendees. The celebrations go on during the day at different times at various places. Fleeting showers may interrupt these festivities during the commemorations.
Independence Day, as such, falls in the thick of monsoon season and core monsoon month of August. Adverse weather conditions spoiling the spirit of gaiety and fervour frequently haunt the national festival. The theme for the 78th Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat”. It symbolizes the government's vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, the 100th year of independence. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has raised jubilance and enthusiasm and instil patriotism among the citizens.
Delhi has been under siege with active monsoon conditions for fairly long. Practically, it has rained every day in August. The base observatory at Safdarjung has recorded a total of 222.4mm of rainfall against the monthly normal of 233.1mm. Very soon, it will cross the mark and go into sufficient surplus during the second half of the month. August, as such, is the rainiest month and excess rains compensating for the earlier deficit, take the worries ‘off’ achieving the seasonal target.
