January began on a warmer note for Rajasthan. The region had been observing above normal temperatures and winter chill was absent from the desert state.
These weather conditions prevailed due to back to back Western Disturbances that gave rain and snow over the hills of North India.
However, during the last few days, temperatures have taken a sharp dip in almost entire Rajasthan. Many areas have been recording minimums below five degree Celsius. These conditions are likely to remain the same for the next few days. Also, some parts of East Rajasthan will see some rainfall activity.
An induced cyclonic circulation has formed over West Rajasthan. Besides this, another cyclonic circulation is presently over West Madhya Pradesh. Due to the combined effect of these systems, scattered light rain is expected over Southeast Rajasthan.
Areas that are likely to receive rain include Bundi, Tonk, Chittorgarh, and Jhalawar. These rains will be observed during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the weather system will move in an easterly direction and cold northerly winds will blow over most parts of Rajasthan.
A marginal rise in the minimums is likely on January 19. However, temperatures will register a significant drop after that. Both maximums and minimums will drop from January 20. This situation is likely to prevail through the weekend.
