Light rain expected in Telangana, maximum temperature to rise

On February 8, many parts of Telangana received light to moderate rains which were on account of a north-south trough extending from Jharkhand up to North Interior Karnataka across Telangana. Thereafter, the weather in Telangana including its capital city - Hyderabad turned dry.

Despite January and February being the leanest months in terms of winter rain, the state has seen surplus rainfall from the period January 1 to February 10. According to the data available with Skymet, Telangana has received 14.1 mm of rain against the normal of 9.5 mm during this period which is 49% excess.

In fact, the weather systems that develop over the Bay of Bengal (responsible for giving rains) seldom form and move towards Telangana in the month of January and February. But this winter season, a couple of significant rainy spells were witnessed in January due to the presence of a confluence zone or a trough which helped the state to record surplus rain.

Meanwhile, we expect isolated light rain in Telangana tonight which may also be observed in the capital city Hyderabad and at a few places like Nazimabad and Ramakundam. The reason for these light rains can be attributed to the humid south-easterly wind from the Bay of Bengal which is feeding moisture to the region. Also, partly cloudy to cloudy skies can be observed during this period.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature has been settling below normal in the entire state which is comfortable. For instance, yesterday Hyderabad saw the maximum settle at 26.5 degrees Celsius and Nizamabad at 27.5 degrees Celsius respectively, which is 5 degrees below normal. Similarly, Hanamkonda saw the day temperature settle at 28 degrees Celsius which is 4 degrees below normal. But the day temperature will now rise as the weather will start clearing up from the region tomorrow onwards.
