February so far has been dry for Central India, parts of East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The last winter rain observed in the region was around January 26. Since then there hasn’t been any rain and the temperatures have been recording above normal in most of the places in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

For instance, Raipur the capital of Chhattisgarh recorded 33.4°C as the maximum on Wednesday, which is 4 degrees above the normal average for the month. While Bilaspur and Durg in the state saw the day temperature settle at 32.4°C and 32.2°C respectively.

Similar situation has been prevailing in Jharkhand and West Bengal as well. Jamshedpur recorded 32°C as the maximum on Wednesday, while Kolkata saw the day temperature settle at 31.5°C.

But there are chances of light rain in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of east Uttar Pradesh by February 8. The spell of rain is going to last for at least 2 days before dry weather resumes in the region. This spell will bring huge relief to the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in terms of drop in day temperatures. The weather is partially going to affect Bihar and Jharkhand as well.

A fresh Western Disturbance expected on February 7 and a cyclonic circulation in south Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh will give rain in the region. Though, the rainfall amounts won’t be large, it will be enough to provide some relief from the warm conditions.
