Delhi has witnessed warm and humid conditions for the last three days. The day temperature remained in excess of 37°C during this period. No rains witnessed in the last about one week. Delhi/NCR is likely to have very light rains over the next three days. The situation may be akin to touch and go and these showers could be just patchy and fleeting.

The monsoon trough is the main trigger for weather activity in Delhi. The trough is running south of its normal position at and above the friction level of 3000 feet. Low-level winds have changed to moist easterlies. Any slight trigger of rising temperature may lead to sporadic showers, anytime during late afternoon and evening.

With the change in the wind pattern, the day temperature will drop and is unlikely to exceed 35°C. As such, partial cloud cover will suppress any rise of mercury. Chances of rainfall are relatively more, today and tomorrow. The least chance will be on Sunday and the next week. After the prevailing conditions favouring light rainfall, the monsoon may prepare for a quick retreat. The normal withdrawal date of 25th September has already been surpassed. The conditions are becoming favourable for monsoon exit, around mid-week next.
