Light Rain And Dust Storm Likely Over Delhi Next Three Days

May 16, 2023 1:01 PM |

The national capital has recorded above-normal day temperatures for the last 3 consecutive days.  The highest maximum temperature of this year so far was recorded on 12 May 2023 at 42.5 degrees, about 3 degrees above normal. However, heat wave conditions have not set as yet and are not likely during this week.

A mild Western Disturbance is moving across the northern mountains. Another system is approaching the same region by 17th May. A cyclonic circulation is marked over Rajasthan with an east - west trough extending up to Delhi and beyond.  Rising heat on account of above-normal temperatures will trigger thunderstorms or dust storms over the region.

Light rain, thunderstorm and dust storm are expected between the 16th and 18th of May over Delhi/NCR.  Strong and gusty winds may also accompany during the dissipation stage of the tall clouds. Most of the activity will occur late in the day or early night. Maximum temperatures are unlikely to drop significantly during this period. These are expected to stay above 40 degrees. After the cessation of this weather activity, the mercury will rise to about 43-44 degrees around the weekend and drop again next week.
