Light patchy rains to continue over Bengaluru for a few days

Since the last week of September, the city of Bengaluru has been receiving good rains. During that time, a north-south trough was extending from North Interior Karnataka to Comorin areas. However, since the last few days, two weather systems including a Low Pressure Area over Southeast Arabian Sea and a Cyclonic Circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal have given moderate rains over the city.

Despite on and off rain and thundershower activities, Bengaluru is rain deficient in October so far. Rural Bengaluru is rain deficient by 36% whereas Urban Bengaluru is deficient by 51%.

Presently, both the above-mentioned weather systems have faded away. Therefore, we expect rains to reduce over Bengaluru. However, isolated patchy rains may continue but we do not expect heavy to very heavy rains for at least one week.

Northeast monsoon is about to set in, but initial days of Northeast monsoon are not expected to give any significant weather activity over South Interior Karnataka including the area of Bengaluru therefore the rain deficiency of the city will persist until mid- October. We will have to wait and see if any other weather system appears over the area in the upcoming days to bring in any significant rain.
