Light Mumbai rains for next few days, Monsoon to revive by June 26

Showers in MumbaiAs reiterated by Skymet Weather, Monsoon surge continues to be weak over Mumbai. As a result, the city has only been recording light rains for the last 2-3 days. In fact, in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, city has recorded mere 2.8 mm of rain.

Further, weathermen predict that city will have to manage will light Monsoon rains only for the next few days. The off-shore trough which was responsible for bringing the Monsoon over Mumbai has now become less marked. It is now extending from South Konkan till Kerala. With this, intensity of rains has also reduced.

Though fresh surge of Monsoon is expected by June 21 but rains are not likely to revive over Mumbai and city may see some light to moderate showers only. “Weather models are not indicating towards much rain in Mumbai in coming days but we are hoping that famous Mumbai rains are likely to reappear by June 26,” said Mahesh Palawat, VP-Meteorology, Skymet Weather.

So far, the city has recorded only 198.2 mm of rain as compared to its whopping monthly average rainfall of 523.1 mm. Though nearby coastal areas such Vengurla and Ratnagiri did see some heavy to very heavy showers but famous three-digit rains have escaped Mumbai till now.

During June, Mumbai usually witnesses good rains but this has not been the case till now. However, one cannot underestimate Mumbai rains, where in three-digit on a single day is not uncommon. Every year, there has been a day in June which has recorded over 150 mm of rain.
