Light Monsoon rains to continue over Kerala, to increase by June 19

Monsoon marked its onset over Kerala on May 30, thereafter which the state was splashed with heavy rains. Monsoon was active to vigorous during the initial days but the intensity of rains reduced significantly over the state during the last few days.

As per Skymet Weather, the off-shore trough is running across the West Coast but is presently feeble in nature. With this, good rains remained confined to Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa region.

Kerala only managed to record some light rainfall. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday Kannur received maximum rainfall of 7.1mm, Thiruvananthapuram 3.4 mm, Alappuzha 2.4 mm, Kozhikode 2.2 mm and Kochi 1.2 mm.

With this, Monsoon remained largely rain deficient by 79% over Kerala in the last 24 hours.

As on June 15, seasonal rainfall deficiency for Kerala stands at 11%, which is considered to be normal.

In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rains will continue over Kerala. Rain intensity is not likely to increase much. Weather conditions across the state will remain pleasant.  Rains in Kerala will once again pick up pace with fresh Monsoon surge over the region by June 19.
