As predicted, Chennai recorded light Monsoon rains on Sunday. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the city observatory recorded rains to the tune of 2.8 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to a trough running along the East Coast. It has increased the level of moisture in the atmosphere over the city. Due to this, convective clouds had formed leading to light rainfall over Chennai.
