Kolkata has been witnessing on and off rains from the last many days. Sparing a day or two, Kolkata has seldom seen dry days. It is due to these rain activities that the weather of Kolkata had remained pleasant almost throughout the month of August. The maximums have mostly settled under the 35 notch.
Although the last 24 hours failed to record good rains for the city, Kolkata recorded a whopping 62 mm of rains a day before. As of now also, light spells are expected to continue in parts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata for at least another 2-3 days.
Light traces of 0.5 mm occurred in the city of joy in the last 24 hours as well. The other districts that have recorded rains in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday include Asansol that recorded 31.2 mm of rains, Midnapore 22.6 mm, Bankura 10 mm, Purulia 6 mm, and Diamond Harbour witnessed 5 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Odisha and adjoining the northwest Bay of Bengal. In the wake of this, light to moderate rains is expected to continue over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

These on and off spells of rain will continue for the next 2-3 days over the city though rains will be short spells of intense nature and will not be continuous. These rainy spells will mainly be with thunder and lightning.
The weather across the city of joy will remain warm and humid. Though, occasional relief from the humid weather may be expected. Moreover, the rain intensity is likely to reduce after August 28. But patchy rains of light intensity will continue drenching the city and will not let prolonged dry spells to prevail for at least next 4-5 days.
Scattered rains are anticipated in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal as well. But the central districts of the state will observe dry weather conditions.
