Light Monsoon rain to continue in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot

June 27, 2018 3:31 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Monsoon arrived in the southern parts of Gujarat with a significant delay of almost ten days. The normal date of the onset of Monsoon over Gujarat is June 15 but Monsoon marked its onset over the state on June 24.

Prior to the onset, the state was recording scanty rains however, it was after the arrival of Southwest Monsoon that the westernmost state of the country started recording heavy to extremely heavy rains. The intensity of rains increased June 25 onwards, so much so that few pockets of Gujarat saw inundating showers. Cities like Valsad and Vadodara were the major sufferer of the incessant rains that submerged the streets and created traffic chaos.

However, these rains remained confined to Gujarat and Saurashtra region, meanwhile, Kutch region did not receive many rains. It was due to the reduced rainfall activity that all the divisions of the state are experiencing rainfall deficiency. As on June 26, Gujarat region is rain deficient by 29% whereas, Saurashtra and Kutch regions are largely rainfall deficient by 92%.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation was persisting over South Gujarat. This weather system was mainly responsible for bringing in rains over the state. However, now, the weather system has moved northwards and can be presently seen lying over South Pakistan and adjoining Kutch and West Rajasthan.

In the wake of this, we do not expect much rain activities over Gujarat. However, light rains with one or two moderate spells may occur over Gujarat in cities like over Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Patan. On the other hand, the weather of Bhuj, Naliya, Dwarka, and Jamnagar, Porbandar and Junagarh would be almost dry.
