Monsoon rain on horizon for Vidarbha, Marathwada

Half of July has passed with Vidarbha receiving on and off Monsoon rain while rain remained negligible in Marathwada region. The absence of rain and increased level of humidity has led to an increase in temperature and worries of farmers in the two sub-divisions. However, according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, scattered light rain in two areas of Maharashtra is likely to help in bringing down the rainfall deficiency.

Since the beginning of Monsoon season till now i.e. June 1 – July 15th, Vidarbha has witnessed the rainfall below normal by 10%. While Marathwada has been severely hit by rainfall deficiency of 44% till now.

The dry spell in two sub-divisions is likely to witness a break as little to moderate rain is expected in parts of Vidharbha like Chandrapur, Nagpur and Wardha from 17th July onwards. The intensity of rain is expected to increase from 18th-20th July. The Monsoon rain is likely to be caused by the Monsoon trough developing over Rajasthan and extending upto south Madhya Pradesh.

Light rain is likely to be observed in parts of Marathwada from 17th-18th July. Due to rain in next few days, temperature in the cities is expected to within the range of 25-36°C.
