Light Monsoon rain in Delhi marks the return of humid weather

September 15, 2016 9:40 AM |

Cloudy weather in DelhiMonsoon rains made a comeback over Delhi on Wednesday wherein the city recorded scattered light rain over several parts of Delhi. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the national capital recorded 5.6 mm of rain.

According to Skymet weather, these rains can be attributed to the southward oscillation of the axis of the Monsoon trough. Earlier the trough was running through Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Now the trough is running south of Delhi through parts of Madhya Pradesh.

With this, weather conditions are still favourable for few more isolated rains at one or two places on Thursday as well. Thereafter, the weather will go dry tomorrow onward but humid easterly winds will continue to blow over the national capital.

Hence, Delhiites will not get any relief from the uncomfortable humid weather for the next few days, unlike the pleasant weather during the last few days.

Delhi has entered into the last leg of the four-month long Southwest Monsoon, leading to significant decrease in the rainfall over the city. The monthly average rainfall also dips drastically from 232.5 mm in August to 129.8 mm in September.

The Monsoon has already started showing withdrawal symptoms from Northwest India. Monsoon starts retreating from Delhi around September 15.
