Light Delhi rains bring relief from cold wave, another spell on February 5 and 6

Light Delhi rains have paved way for cool but comfortable weather conditions across Delhi NCR.  Night temperatures that have been settling around 5℃ , have now increased significantly to 11℃  on Friday morning.

According to Skymet Weather, the Cyclonic Circulation persisting over West Rajasthan was responsible in giving isolated very light rain on January 31 over Delhi NCR. In fact, last night reported one or two short spells of rain over the national capital and its adjoining areas of Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. This trend is still continuing and many parts of National Capital Territory are experiencing light drizzle at present.

Now, as the Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir is moving in east direction and its induced Cyclonic Circulation is also on the verge of weakening. Thus, we expect weather to start clearing up today afternoon onward and weather to go dry once again.

Moreover, in wake of all these activities, minimums which were below normal by 3℃ to 4℃ on January 30, have now become above normal by 3℃. The reason for this change in minimums can be attributed to the change in wind profile from northerly to easterly as well as persistence of overnight cloud cover.

Moreover, these weather conditions have resulted in a marginal improvement in pollution level. Pollution levels are still under ‘poor to very poor’ category over many places.

Further, in the coming days, another Western Disturbance as well as the Cyclonic Circulation will take over Western Himalayas, most probably by the evening of February 4. Due to these systems, winds will once again become easterly and yet another spell of thundershower is expected over Delhi and NCR between February 5 and 6. When this situation happens, pollution will once again rise and might hit the severe category mark.
