Chennai has not remained dry in the month of July as on and off rains of varied intensity are going on in the city due to which Chennai has seldom seen dry days. However, the fag end of June and the initial days of July dry but thereafter, rains continue to show up in Chennai. Few light spells did occur in Chennai in the last 24 hours which are likely to continue.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Chennai’s Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 1 mm of spells while the Minambakkam Observatory observed very light traces of 0.2 mm of rains. Counting on these rains, the former observatory has recorded a total of 117.5 mm of rains as against its monthly mean of 103.8 mm. The reason for these light spell of rain as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a feeble offshore trough which is persisting from South Andhra Pradesh up to north coastal Tamil Nadu. In the wake of this, light rains are going on in the city.

Furthermore, the weathermen predict that these rains will continue in Chennai for at least another 4-5 days. However, the intensity of these rains will be light and patchy in nature and will be highly localized.

Despite these rainy spells, not much changes in temperature profile are anticipated. The sky may remain from cloudy to partly cloudy but as these rains will be patchy and not scattered, the weather will remain warm and humid. Moreover, no heavy rain is in sight for the city for the next 4-5 days.
