Light Chennai rains to continue, humidity to persist

The Gateway to South India, Chennai had been witnessing sultry weather conditions since past many days. But, traces or light rains have been witnessed over the region on limited instances.

During the past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Meenambakkam Observatory in Chennai witnessed light rains to the tune of 15 mm, Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 10 mm of rain.

Other areas of Tamil Nadu that recorded some rains of light intensity include Vellore 28 mm, Coimbatore 18 mm, Thanjavur 16 mm, Coonoor 12 mm, Thiruttani 10 mm, Cuddalore 9 mm, Karaikal 9 mm, Chintamani 11 mm, Dharmapuri 6 mm and Salem 2 mm.

These light rains in Chennai and light to moderate showers in Tamil Nadu can be attributed to a trough that is extending from west-central Bay of Bengal to North Tamil Nadu.

As per Skymet Weather, scattered light rains with a few moderate spells will continue over Tamil Nadu, while Chennai will settle with light rains for the next 24 hours.

Morning and nights will remain comfortable, with warm and sultry days. Day maximums will settle around 33-34 degrees, whereas minimum temperatures will range in 24-25 degrees.

As on September 16, Chennai has received 66.3 mm of rainfall as against its monthly mean of 147.7 mm.

The Gateway to South India, Chennai will be holding the first ODI amid India and Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium today. The game will start at 1:30 PM. As light rains have already started over city and it is expected to obstruct for the full-fledged match for the spectators and the players.
