Odisha has been one of the hottest pockets in the country for the last few weeks. Severe heatwave conditions are prevailing over many parts of Odisha. Few stations have already surpassed the all-time record of maximum temperatures.
These severe heatwave conditions will continue in the state for rest of April. We do not expect any relief at least for next one week. We can see a trough extending from Assam to interiors of Odisha, but in the absence of enough moisture, we expect only thundery activity over some parts of coastal Odisha and adjoining interior parts. Nevertheless, these weather activities will be insufficient to cool down the weather conditions. Therefore, temperatures will continue to remain high.
According to media reports, the death toll in the state due to heatwave has risen to 88.

No significant weather system is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal during rest of the month. At present, we also do not see any anti-cyclone forming over coastal Odisha. The anti-cyclone could have brought moist southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to cool down the tremendously hot state.
On Sunday, Titlagarh recorded 48.5°C, which is the all-time highest maximum for the month of April. Even Bhubaneswar broke all records as the mercury touched 45.8°C on April 11. The maximum temperature recorded in Angul on Sunday was 44.1°C, while in Bhawanipatna it was 45°C.
