Least Weather Activity Over The Country Last Two Days, Dry Weather Likely For a Couple Of Days

Weather activity had reduced to minimal over the country during the last two days. Earlier, under the influence of western disturbance and induced cyclonic circulation over northern parts, heavy snowfall over the mountains and a decent spread of rain – thundershowers were witnessed in the plains. Now, the westerly system has cleared the Himalayan region and the auxiliary circulation also moved away. There is hardly any active weather system across the boundaries of the country. Only, the strong westerly jet stream trailing across parts of Rajasthan and Haryana, embedded with some rain-bearing clouds, has sprayed very light rainfall over isolated places, in the past 24 hours. The chances of continuing with this activity are rather dim.

Passage of westerly trough across mountains of northeast India sprinkled absolutely fleeting light drizzle over isolated places in Sikkim & Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Upper Assam and extreme eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Rains over the country remained largely scanty with a daily deficit of over 80% rainfall.  Northern, central and southern parts have nearly contributed zero rainfall over the last two days. Pan India, the seasonal rainfall has a shortfall of 30%, between 01^st Jan and 08^th Feb 2024. Conditions are unlikely to become better, till the upcoming weekend.

There is no active weather system over the north and eastern parts of the country and no rainfall is likely for the next about one week. A seasonal anticyclone has pushed rather far over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Turning of winds from this system towards the coastline may cause very light drizzle over South Coastal Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next 2 days. The rest of the parts will observe dry weather conditions during this period. There is some build-up likely, following this period, over the central parts of the country. Under the combined influence of anticyclone and an upcoming cyclonic circulation over central parts, a few unseasonal rainfalls are likely over Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh on 10^th and 11^th Feb. Later, these showers will reach covering parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, between 12^th and 14^thFeb. The unseasonal weather activity will cease effective 15^th Feb. Broader clearance over most parts, except the northern mountains, is likely to follow.
