The Northern plains of the country have remained practically dry during October and November. November, as such, is the least rainiest month for the northern and western parts of the country. Even the mountains of North India have remained barren. Rain and snow have been too little and infrequent. Delayed activity led to warmer days during the first half of November across most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Dry weather conditions are likely over this region during the approaching weekend. The only exception will be the higher reaches of Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. A weak westerly system will give short and light spells of sleet and snow over the higher mountain ranges. The low and mid reaches may have to contend with a partly cloudy sky with an outside chance of fleeting rains. Yes, the plains will have a dip in temperature, following the clearance of the weather system, next week.

The western and central parts are witnessing mild wintry conditions. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh have observed a dip in the morning temperatures. Single-digit minimum temperatures were recorded at Bhopal, Mandla, Umaria and Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh. Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh also joined the group of single-digit minima. The second summer over Gujarat has given way to decent day temperatures of the low 30s and pleasantly cool morning temperatures of the low teens. The capital city Gandhinagar recorded a minimum of 12.4°C, the lowest of this season and about 5°C below the normal.

The eastern and northeastern parts of the country are observing dry weather conditions. The flavour of pink chill with minimum temperatures in the high teens is prevalent all across the region. Shallow to moderate fog has become a regular feature for parts of Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam Valley. Pleasant weather conditions are likely to continue over the entire region.

The Northeast monsoon was active over the southern parts till yesterday. South Coastal Tamil Nadu witnessed moderate to heavy rains during this week. However, the rains have receded now and a short break in the intense activity is likely over the South Peninsula. South India is the only region, lined up for intense weather activity, commencing early next week. Courtesy, a strong weather system, possibly a cyclonic storm brewing presently over the Andaman Sea will track along the southern states, next week. Inclement weather conditions are likely for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Coastal Andhra Pradesh between 25th and 28th Nov 2024.
