All three land-locked sub-divisions of Maharashtra and the only coastal one of Konkan are rain surplus this monsoon season. The rainiest of these is Madhya Maharashtra, with an excess of 45% rainfall. The least is the drought-prone pocket of Marathwada which still has 19% above normal rainfall. All parts of the state will take a dip in the monsoon activity and the lean phase may continue for over one week.

There is no likelihood of any prominent weather system approaching the state. The monsoon trough is running well to the north of the state, nearly in its normal position. It is inconsequential for any weather activity over this region. There are bleak chances of any fresh weather system coming up over the Bay of Bengal. The remnant of the earlier system is now lying as a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand, at a very safe distance from the state. The offshore trough, from South Gujarat to Kerala, a semi-permanent feature during monsoon, is literally in sleep mode. This, otherwise is the rainiest weather system during the season. Overall, there is hardly any trigger to stimulate active monsoon conditions over the state.

The farthest sub-division of Vidarbha may have scattered light to moderate showers during the next 24 hours and go nearly silent thereafter, along with Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra. Konkan region, including Mumbai, will observe the lowest level of monsoon activity with mostly light rainfall and rarely have a moderate spell. While there could be isolated localized weather activity over the eastern half of Vidarbha and extreme north Madhya Maharashtra, the rest of the region will practically remain dry. Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra will witness nearly nil weather activity. These conditions will prevail till 15th-16th August. A fresh call will be taken to assess the weather conditions for the region during the later half of August.
