Lean Monsoon Activity Over Plains Of North India For Next One Week

July 10, 2024 4:20 PM |

After staying largely deficit in the month of June, the plains of North India have by and large caught up with the normals of the season. Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi were far below the averages till end of June. Delhi did have a deluge on single day, 28thJune crossing monthly normal by a huge margin.  Courtesy, activation of monsoon trough, most parts of the region have overcome the large shortfall.  However, these parts could again go to a lean phase for nearly one week.

The monsoon trough, in the lower levels will shift north of its normal position, dragging the monsoon activity along the foothills.  Most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan will witness scanty weather activity over the next one week.  Courtesy, a cyclonic circulation over North Pakistan and border areas of Punjab, there will be an uptick in the activity on 12thJuly, along the foothills of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.

Rain and thundershowers will be intense and widespread on this day.  Stations at risk will include Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dharamshala, Kangra and Una. This will be a day long activity and conditions will improve the next day.  Lack of weather activity will reduce the cloud cover, increase the sultry conditions, rise in the day temperature and slow down of winds. These conditions will typically raise the discomfort index, more so, in the afternoon hours.
