Latest update on Northeast Monsoon: Intense rain in TN, Kerala

rain12 CroppedWidespread and heavy rain washed Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala in last 24 hours. Due to heavy rain in last two days in Tamil Nadu, many schools and educational institutions remained closed on Monday. Temperatures have also dipped as maximum temperature settled at 26ºC and minimum at 23ºC.

Kerala too received widespread rain but not intense as Tamil Nadu. Barring Kottyaam that received rain of 65.6 mm in last 24 hours, rest all places received rainfall upto 20 mm. However, maximum temperature in Kerala was high, remaining above 30ºC for most of the places.

44 CroppedSteady rain over Tamil Nadu and Kerala brings cheer to people of South India.

With few heavy spells of rain in last 24 hours, Northeast Monsoon gained strength over Southern Peninsula. The much awaited Monsoon showered parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala with widespread rain and thundershowers that are likely to continue for next few days.

Easterly winds maintained its strength over South India along with thick cloud mass that gave heavy rain in Tamil Nadu. While Nagapattinam in TN received 90 mm of rain in past 24 hours, Chennai, Coonoor and Coimbatore received rain over 50 mm each in the same span.

Widespread rain was also observed in parts of Kerala with Thiruvananthapuram receiving rain of 80 mm in last 24 hours. Punalur and Kottayam both received rain over 30 mm respectively.

As low pressure in Bay of Bengal intensifies, heavy rain is expected to lash the coastal Tamil Nadu and Kerala for few more days.
