The cyclonic circulation, extending up to mid tropospheric levels in the Bay of Bengal, has come very close to the coastal parts of Odisha in the last 24 hours. The system is gradually weakening but it still holds the capacity to bring widespread rain over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal for the next few days.
In fact East India has been receiving rain, due the influence of the system and no dry spell in the offing for this part of the country. After bringing rain over coastal Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and adjoining West Bengal, the rain belt will engulf interiors of Telangana, south Odisha, and Vidarbha. Light to good amounts of rain is likely over Gangetic plains, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh as well.
Rain in Odisha
In the last 24 hours, Jharsuguda received 8.4 mm of rain, Koraput 20 mm, Paradip 10 mm, Sambalpur 19 mm of rain.
In view of rain, temperatures have come down considerably in the entire state and maximums are now in the range of 31⁰C to 34⁰C.
Rain in Andhra Pradesh
The system brought the much awaited Monsoon showers in Andhra Pradesh as well. Here’s a look at rain figures in the last 24 hours-
Nizamabad 22 mm, Tirupati 19.2, Kakinada 6.4 mm, Machilipatnam 16 mm and Nellore 22 mm.
According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, cumulative rain deficit is decreasing in Odisha, which at present stands at 57% short of Monsoon rain. Deficiency in coastal Andhra Pradesh is 71% but the present weather system could mitigate this deficit rain to some extent.
