The absence of rainfall is due to the absence of any significant weather system over the region.
The weather conditions are near palpable as the afternoons are sultry with high humidity levels. During morning and evening, the city can observe the cool sea breeze making the weather conditions better.
As of now also, no noteworthy weather system is prevailing but localized development of clouds due to close proximity of the region to Arabian Sea may give occasional light showers over Mumbai. These rains are mainly expected towards early morning or late afternoon.
Light rains yet to continue over Mumbai
Good rains have been lashing the capital city of Maharashtra from past few days now. During last 24 hours as well, the city has received decent rains. In fact, the day before also, Colaba observatory in Mumbai has witnessed extremely good rainfall recording three digit rains as well.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, the Santa Cruz observatory had witnessed 35.4 mm of rains while the Colaba observatory received 30.8 mm showers.

More heavy Monsoon rains to lash Mumbai
After a prolonged period of dry spell, Monsoon rains have made a striking comeback over the capital state of Maharashtra on the auspicious day of Ganpati Visarjan. Mumbai has received heavy to very heavy showers during last 24-48 hours. These Monsoon rains have created havoc over the city which remained dry for quite some time now.
In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz Observatory in Mumbai has received a whopping of 81 mm of rainfall. And 56 mm of rains has happened over Colaba Observatory.
These rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area over Telangana and the adjoining areas. Due to this weather system, the West Coast has observed increased Monsoon rains owing to the moisture incursion over the region.
Now, this low-pressure area has become less marked, however, the associated cyclonic circulation still persists over the region. Thus, we can expect heavy to very heavy Monsoon rains over most parts of the city during the next 24-48 hours.

The reason for these light showers can be attributed to a low pressure area presently prevailing over Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, this system is likely to shift westwards towards the central parts of the country.
Due to close proximity of this system over Mumbai, few more moderate to heavy showers are expected to lash the state capital by September 15. Moreover, these rains are likely to continue for another 3-4 days.

Good Monsoon rains to revisit Mumbai
At present, Mumbai is witnessing subdued rains from past few days. It seems as if Monsoon over the capital has taken a back seat. In a span of last 24 hours as well, Mumbai has observed light to moderate spells. During last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Colaba and Santa Cruz observatory both have recorded 9 mm of rainy spells. Nevertheless, situation seems to be favorable for Mumbai now. Rain intensity is expected to pick up pace during next 24-48 hours. Thus, Mumbai will continue to witness light to moderate spells. These good showers could be attributed to the strengthening of an off shore trough over Konkan & Goa. A Low Pressure Area can also be seen over Southeast Rajasthan along with a well-marked Low Pressure Area over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. Due to these weather systems, Monsoon surge and offshore trough will get some strength leading to moderate showers over north coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai. The actual rainfall figure for the season stands at 1534.8 mm against the normal rainfall figure of 1695.3 mm. That means the city has received 9% normal rainfall on the negative side.
