Last leg of Southwest Monsoon gives light spells over West Coast
Rains have not been able to show up over the west coastal region of India from past few days now. The region though witnessed some good rains during the initial start of the month, but they have gradually vanished form the region now.
During the last 24 hours as well, most of the west coastal region of the country remained rain scarce apart from Kerala, where a few light to moderate showers were witnessed.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 hours on Thursday, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Punalur districts in Kerala managed to witness 4 mm, 27.6 mm, 7 mm and 12 mm of rainfall respectively. While Agumbe and Mangalore in the Karnataka state observed 9.2 mm and 1.3 mm of showers respectively.
The cyclonic circulation which was over Chhattisgarh that at present lies over South Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha region. Further, this system is likely to move westwards.
In the wake of this weather conditions, West coast particularly in the North Konkan and Goa region clouding is likely to increase. This will further pour light rains over the region especially during the early hours.
However, these rains are likely to intensify gradually during evening ad night hours and that time moderate showers are likely to occur on mainly the overcast sky. Parts of West coast of the country is also expected to witness gusty winds.
On the other hand, South West Coast is likely to remain dry with only few short light to very light spells making their appearance over the particular region. Therefore, partly cloudy sky with comfortable day condition is expected to prevail.
Short rainy spells likely over the West Coast
A decrease in rainfall activities over the west coastal region of India has already been initiated since the month began. Till date, not much rainfall has been observed by the states that lies in the west coastal region of the country.

Rains go subdued over West Coast of India, no relief likely
Monsoon rains have gone sparsely active over the West Coast of India. Rainfall activity has been on the quieter side for a while now. Few areas may witness some rainfall activity but this activity will be because of localized formation of clouds. These localized rains can be attributed to the proximity of sea.
Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Harnai, Ratnagiri & Dahanu observed a mere 2 mm of rainfall while localized weather formation made sure that Mahabaleshwar recorded a whopping 58 mm of rains.
But some relief is like over the region as fresh weather system is supposed to pop up over the Bay of Bengal. This weather system is likely to move in a westerly direction. This Weather System is likely to give good rains over West Coast around October 3.
Over the West Coast it is only Konkan & Goa that has received good rains and is reflected in the rainfall numbers of the region. At present the region is rainfall excess by 23% for the entire season of Monsoon. But when it comes to Coastal Karnataka the number are no less than disturbing. Coastal Karnataka is rainfall deficient by 23%. But the most rain deficient region in the entire country is Kerala, which sits at a rainfall deficiency of 33%.

Light rain will persist over West Coast
The close proximity of the weather system to Vidarbha region in Maharashtra had kept Southwest Monsoon active during past few days over West Coast. Moderate to heavy rain had been observed in parts of Maharashtra and Kerala also witnessed a good spell of rain.
However, rain intensity has reduced over West Coast now. Several areas that received good rain on Friday and Saturday just received marginal rainfall in last 24 hours.
For instance, in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Harnai received 1.6 mm, Ratnagiri received 4 mm of rainfall, and Dahanu witnessed10.4 mm of rain. Light rain continued over parts of coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Dahanu in West Coast records a whopping 529 mm of rain
Southwest Monsoon seems to be vigorous over North Konkan region and active over Goa.
Dahanu is a coastal town in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. This place, lying in the North Konkan region of the country and situated about 110 km from Mumbai, received extremely heavy showers in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Tuesday. Dahanu broke the all-time highest rainfall record and received 529 mm of rain. Earlier, the all-time highest rainfall record was 481 mm, received on September 1, 1958. Reason for these showers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra. Moreover, the westerly winds from the Arabian Sea will increase moisture and would enhance the rainfall activity over coastal Karnataka and South Konkan and Goa region.
Therefore, light to moderate showers along with heavy spells at a few places over Konkan and Goa and South Gujarat coast are expected. Furthermore, coastal Karnataka is also likely to witness light to moderate showers but intensity of rain is likely to increase over these regions 48 hours hence.
Southwest Monsoon flurries over West Coast of India

Light to moderate rainfall will also continue over Coastal Karnataka and rain will remain subdue over Kerala but in isolated patches over North Kerala. South Kerala will remain dry with chances of isolated light rain cannot be ruled out.
The reason for these rains is the cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra. Moist winds from southwest are reaching and increased moisture over Konkan & Goa and Monsoon surge over rest West Coast decreases.

Most of the West Coast is receiving good rains except Kerala
Since last many days, Monsoon condition over West Coast has been oscillating between active to subdued.
In last 24 hours few moderate to heavy spell have occurred over Konkan & Goa and parts of Coastal Karnataka. Now the low pressure system which is over Telangana and Marathwada will move towards west and start affecting Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka.
In terms of rainfall the intensity will be moderate to heavy with one or two places even receiving extremely heavy rainfall. Rain intensity will be much more over north Konkan & Goa and south Coast of Gujarat.

In the last 24 hours, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka have received light to moderate rains. The weather over Kerala has once again gone dry with isolated weather activity.
Skymet Weather predicts subdued rains to continue for next 48 hours over the region. Thereafter, the rain intensity will increase significantly by September 15 over Konkan & Goa due to the movement of low pressure system across peninsular India. With this, heavy to very heavy showers are expected over the area, particularly the northern parts.
Meanwhile, only scattered light rain spell can be expected with one or two moderate spells over parts of coastal Karnataka. On the other hand, Kerala will continue to remain dry with subdued rainfall activity.
Moderate Monsoon rains anticipated over Konkan & Goa
The West Coast of India has been receiving subdued rains only for the past few days. In fact, the month of September has brought no good news for the entire region. Though occasional good showers occurred over Mumbai and Bhira in last 2-3 days, but most of the places in the West Coast have only received light rainfall activity.
In the last 24 hours, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka has been receiving continuous light rain with few moderate spells. But when compared with the weather of Kerala, the situation seems far better than the state.

Rains to increase over West Coast
The West Coast of India has been receiving light rains only for the past few days. In fact, the month of September has brought no good news for the entire region. Rains have been far and few over Coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Kerala.
In fact, there has been a long time since the region has recorded rains in three digits. The last 24 hours have been no different and rains have been very less for the region. In fact, many areas have also witnessed dry weather conditions during the last 24 hours.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Mumbai has been the only region where moderate rains of 27 mm have been recorded. Other areas including Mahabaleshwar, Dahanu and Bhira have recorded very light rains. Parts of Kerala have been mostly dry with very little rain.
However, now rains are all set to increase all along the West Coast. At present, a cyclonic circulation is over west-central Bay. Due to this system, moisture incursion will increase along the coast and the region will witness good rains.
West Coast of India witnessing subdued Monsoon rains
The West Coastal region of India had witnessed light to moderate rains from past few days. However, rains over the west coast of India have remained subdued during last 24 hours.
Due to absence of any significant weather system prevailing over the West Coastal region of the country, there has not been enough rainfall over the region.
In a span of 24 hours, parts of coastal Karnataka managed to witness some showers. Agumbe witnessed 12.4 mm rainfall and Mangalore recorded 5.8 mm showers.
The Konkan and Goa region including Maharashtra also managed to witness some spells. During the similar time frame, Dahanu recorded 4 mm showers, Harnai 3.2 mm spells and Mahabaleshwar observed 2.6 mm rains.
However, rains in Kerala still remained subdued. Wherein, Thiruvananthapuram witnessed merely 1 mm wet spells.
These subdued rains are likely to continue over the West Coast of India for another 24 hours. Not much possibilities of good showers are foreseen as of now. However, light spells are still likely over the region.
Parts of Coastal Karnataka receive moderate rains
The West Coast of India has been receiving subdued rains only for the past few days. However, rains have picked up some pace during the last 24 hours over some parts of the coast.
A few spells of light to moderate showers have been recorded over Coastal Karnataka. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Honavar recorded a good 27.1 mm of rain. Other areas to have received light to moderate rains include Harnai 19.8 mm, Madikeri 2.6 mm and Mangalore 1.6 mm.
Southwest Monsoon remained subdued over Konkan and Goa. During the last 24 hours, Dahanu received 10.1 mm of rain, Mahabaleshwar 7.5 mm, Bhira 6 mm and Mumbai 5.5 mm of rainfall. These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is over the Gujarat region.
On the other hand, rains in Kerala remained almost absent. In fact, at present Southwest Monsoon is weak over the state. During the next 24 hours similar weather conditions will prevail over the region.
West Coast rains to be enhanced by fresh weather system over Gujarat
Southwest Monsoon continues to remain subdued along the West Coast. During last 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains were witnessed over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, North Kerala.
Monsoon has been subdued over this region because the off-shore trough along the West coast has now become insignificant.
In the Konkan region Dahanu received 4 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours while Ratnagiri received 17 mm.
Honavar in Coastal Karnataka recorded 12.7 mm of rainfall, Madikeri 15.6 mm, Karwar 1.2 mm and Mangalore 6 mm of rains.
Kannur in Kerala also received some rainfall to the tune of 14 mm.
A fresh cyclonic circulation has developed over Gujarat. There we could expect scattered moderate rains over coastal parts of Gujarat and northern parts of Konkan and Goa during next 24 hours. North Kerala will also receive some rains. However, southern parts of the state will be mainly dry.
Subdued Monsoon activity persists over West Coast
As of now the off-shore trough, which was running along the West Coast of India from Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast has become insignificant. And at present only subdued rainfall activity is going on at isolated places in West Coast.
The regions that are receiving rains are Konkan & Goa and parts of coastal Karnataka. All these areas have recorded light rain with one or two moderate spells. But the southernmost state of West Coast, Kerala, has been dry and is likely to remain dry for the coming few days.
Skymet Weather predicts that there won’t be any significant rainfall activity in next 24-48 hours.
Light rain activity is expected to continue over Konkan & Goa and Karnataka coast for the time being. Whereas Kerala is expected to remain dry with isolated weather activity.
At present Konkan & Goa is way above the normal rainfall by 13%, with 2984.3 mm of rains against the normal rainfall of 2644.3 mm. Coastal Karnataka is still rain deficient by 21% whereas Kerala remains firm at 30% rainfall deficiency.

Declining rainfall trend observed over West Coast
From taking a backseat to going almost dry as entire West Coast of India looks morbid as rainfall abates the region. The rainfall seems to have lulled over the entire region, but even with the subdued activities some parts of Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka may get some increased rainfall.
The feeble off-shore trough has become less marked and therefore intensity of rain over entire coastal line may even go further down. But scattered light rain may be observed over all along the West Coast with few areas may get moderate showers also.
This increased intensity of rain will be more over South Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka. Rainfall to remain subdued over Kerala.
As of now Skymet Weather predicts that there aren’t any chances of revival of rain activity for at least next 2-3 days.
For entire Monsoon season rainfall figures of different region of West Coast are: Kerala 30% rainfall deficient, Coastal Karnataka 21% rainfall deficient, Konkan & Goa 13% rainfall surplus.
These rainfall figures are more likely to go down due the deficient rainfall activity that will persist over the region for the time being.

Coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa to receive light rains
For the past few days, Monsoon rains have taken a backseat over the West Coast. In fact, the Monsoon surge has weakened over many parts of the West Coast. Not only over parts of Kerala, but rains continued to be light over other areas of the West Coast as well.
During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rains were recorded over both Coastal Karnataka as well as Konkan and Goa. In a span of 24 hours, Agumbe received 19.8 mm, Honavar 14.8 mm, Karwar 20 mm, Mangalore 16.8 mm, Bhira 32 mm, Mumbai 22.3 mm, and Ratnagiri 9 mm.
Light to moderate Monsoon rains were also witnessed over the state of Kerala. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kasargode recorded 14.2 mm, Thrissur 13 mm, Aluva 15 mm, Idukki 13.6 mm, and Amini Devi 24.5 mm.
During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain subdued over both Coastal Karnataka and Konkan and Goa. However, rains are expected to pick up pace over Kerala.
Monsoon conditions to weaken over West Coast
Southwest Monsoon has weakened over the West Coast of India. But even with a weakened surge the rainfall lashed the coast with moderate intensity with isolated heavy spells over the area. Some places in Kerala received good rainfall and rest parts of the West Coast remained rainless.
In a span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am as on Thursday, North Kerala received good showers. Kudlu received 6.2 mm showers, Vadakara 7.3 mm, Perintalmanna 7 mm and Kannur received 0.5 mm rainfall. While in South Kerala, Ernakulam received 15 mm rains; Piravom observed 20.4 mm, Alappuzha 5 mm, Munnar 8.4 mm and Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district witnessed 6.2 mm rains.
These rains in the southern Kerala can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Maldives and adjoining Lakshadweep.
The rest areas of West Coast such as Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka continued with subdued rainfall activity. The Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai recorded a mere 3.6 mm of rainfall.
Places that received good rainfall other than Kerala are Honnavar 16 mm, Karwar 37.4 mm, Ratnagiri 10.6 mm. With the absence of Monsoon rains over northern parts of West Coast and with the increased temperatures, rise in discomfort due to humidity is a major factor to be considered.

Monsoon rain show decreasing trend over West Coast
Southwest Monsoon remained somewhat active along the West Coast of India. Some places even received good showers over many parts of the region yesterday.
During the last 24 hours, Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka have received moderate showers at many places with isolated places receiving heavy spells.
But rain activity over Kerala remains subdued with mostly scattered light rain showering over the state. This rainfall activity was confined to the northern region of the state only.
The weather system that is running along the west coast is an off-shore trough, which is still feeble. But due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over South Tamil Nadu, we can expect the rain activity to increase over Kerala within next 24 hours.
But this increased rainfall activity will be only confined to Kerala and Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka will only get light to moderate rains due to this weather system.
Places that received rainfall over West Coast are Honnavar 23 mm, Karwar 6 mm, Ratnagiri 6 mm, Kannur 3 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 4 mm.
Monsoon Rains will continue over West Coast
Southwest Monsoon remained active along the West Coast. In fact, good showers have been observed in many parts of the region during last 24 hours.
As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the persisting Monsoon system which developed in the Bay of Bengal and has now moved inland, near Andhra Pradesh.
Another cyclonic circulation can be seen over South Tamil Nadu and adjoining Comorin area. Now, this system will activate the feeble off-shore trough running from Coastal Maharashtra up to North Kerala. As a result, rains will increase and light to moderate rains can be observed over several parts of Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Vigorous Monsoon gives torrential rains over Coastal Maharashtra
West Coast has been witnessing light to moderate Monsoon for last few days. However, with the fresh Monsoon surge, rains picked up pace over most parts of Coastal Maharashtra and South Coastal Gujarat.
All thanks to the twin weather systems prevailing over Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat that has partially activated the off-shore trough running along the West Coast. According to Skymet Weather, one cyclonic circulation is marked over South Rajasthan, while the other one is also seen in its close proximity over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Gujarat.
In wake of this, active to vigorous Monsoon conditions were seen over Coastal Maharashtra and South Coastal Gujarat, giving heavy to very heavy rains. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Harnai in Maharashtra recorded whopping 130 mm of rain, followed by Alibag 107 mm, Mumbai 106 mm, Mahabaleswar 61.6 mm, Dahanu 57 mm and Bhira 49 mm.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, intensification in the rain activity can be attributed to the low pressure area prevailing over South Rajasthan for the last couple of days. This fresh surge of Monsoon has activated the off-shore trough running along the West Coast that has been lying insignificant during the last many days. The trough is now extending from North Coastal Maharashtra till Coastal Karnataka.

However, during the last 24 hours, Monsoon rains have picked up pace over several parts of West Coast. So much so that many areas in Konkan and Coastal Karnataka have received moderate showers.
These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area over the Rajasthan region which has been pulling moisture towards the West Coast activating the Monsoon surge over the region.

Few moderate showers were observed by the West Coast of India during last 24 hours. Now, an offshore Monsoon trough is still feeble however, this would lead to a slight increase in Monsoon surge over West Coast.
Due to this, the rain intensity has picked up pace and further, moderate showers are expected to continue over Konkan & Goa along with Coastal Karnataka. Few parts of North Kerala are also likely to witness a few good showers.
24 hours hence, South coast of Gujarat may also get few good rainy spells. But the southern parts of coastal Kerala may remain mainly dry with isolated light spells only prevailing over the region. Subdued rain continues over West Coast
The West coastal region of India has been witnessing subdued rainfall from past many days. The reason for these subdued rains can be attributed to an insignificant off shore trough.

In fact, Mumbai rains have also taken a back seat. During the last 24 hours, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded a mere trace of rain. As far as the Colaba observatory is concerned, not even a drop of rain was witnessed.
The feeble off shore which was running along the West Coast has also become insignificant which is why rain intensity is expected to reduce over the region further. However, the possibility of light to moderate rains over some areas cannot be ruled out.
Agumbe has received heavy rains of 53 mm during the last 24 hours. Other areas received light rains only. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Mangalore has recorded 11 mm of rain, Karwar 3 mm, Bhira 5 mm, Harnai 2.4 mm, Mahabaleshwar 11.8 mm, and Kozhikode 6.2 mm.

Moderate rains to keep hovering over West Coast of India
The West Coastal region of India is witnessing moderate to light rains from past few days. Most of the regions have witnessed really good showers during the last 24 hours.
Konkan & Goa has received good rains with Mahabaleshwar recording 63 mm of rain followed by Dahanu with 55 mm rain. Panjim has observed 10 mm and Ratnagiri with merely 2.7 mm rains.
Karnataka has observed light Monsoon showers with most of the districts remaining almost dry apart from a few regions witnessing moderate showers. Agumbe witnessed 50.2 mm rainfall while Mangalore observed 11 mm.
Reason for these rains can be attributed to an offshore trough running from South Gujarat to Karnataka Coast.
Rains have remained absent from the Kerala region from quite some time now. Most of the districts have hardly managed to record heavy showers. Rains have remained subdued over South Kerala region however, North Kerala have still managed to record few moderate spells.
In the North Kerala region, Kozhikode observed 7 mm rains while Irikkur region in Kannur district have recorded 16 mm. In the South Kerala region, Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district has observed 12.2 mm rainfall while Idukki recorded 8.2 mm of rain.
However, now, similar conditions are likely to remain over the West Coast for next 2-3 days with not much changes expected.
West Coast will continue to witness light Monsoon rains
The West Coast of India has been observing widespread rains for a long time. Heavy showers were mostly observed over Mahabaleshwar in Konkan & Goa region.
Most of the stations that fall in this region had observed decent rains. The reason for these rains over West Coast can be attributed to an off-shore trough running from South Gujarat to South Coast Karnataka.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 80 mm rainfall followed by Harnai recording 29 mm rainfall.
Most parts of Goa have also managed to get light showers. The capital city of the state recorded 2.7 mm of light rains while Valpoi observed 11.2 mm rainfall.
Monsoon rains have remained subdued over Kerala. However, as compared to South Kerala, the northern regions of the state have managed to witness few moderate rains.

In South Kerala, Ernakulam has managed to observe light spells of 12 mm while Alappuzha witnessed 8.2 mm of rain. Rainfall recorded in Idukki district is 15.8 mm.
Now, light rains at many places, with moderate showers at a few regions, are a possibility over Konkan & Goa region. But, Kerala will still be continuing with subdued rainfall activity. Only localized weather phenomenon could give light rains or thundershowers over the state.
Rain intensity reduces over West Coast
The West Coast had been receiving widespread rains for a long time. In fact, many areas were witnessing heavy rains as the Monsoon surge was active over the region. So much so that several cities including Dahanu, Harnai, Mahabaleshwar along with Agumbe were receiving rainfall in three digits.
Monsoon rains were also moderate in nature over the state of Kerala. However, now rain intensity has reduced over the entire West Coast significantly. However, Mahabaleshwar has still managed to receive rainfall in three digits of 117 mm. Agumbe has also received 62.4 mm.
However, other areas including Dahanu at 29 mm, Bhira at 39 mm, and Kozhikode at 10 mm are witnessing reduced rainfall activity. The off shore trough which is running along the West Coast has become feeble resulting in less rains over the region.
Similar conditions are expected over all these areas during the next 24 hours as well. Thus, the West Coast will not witness vigorous Monsoon rains as of now.
Monsoon surge weakens, Konkan & Goa to receive moderate rainfall
Southwest Monsoon has become weak comparing with the heavy falls of last week. But even with the weakening of intensity, the surge continues to bring light to moderate showers along the West Coast, particularly Konkan & Goa region.
A feeble trough is running from South Gujarat to Konkan & Goa. And we expect moderate showers from south coast of Gujarat to Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
Some parts of Kerala especially North Kerala may also receive light to moderate rains. Heavy to very heavy rains which we witnessed last week over Konkan & Goa will not be seen as of now.
At present, the Monsoon surge is not very active over West Coast of India. But on and off moderate showers will continue. Since the beginning of Monsoon, except Kerala, all the other regions have received on and off good spell.

During next 24 hours, active Monsoon conditions are likely along the West Coast, particularly Konkan & Goa. This could be attributed to the off-shore trough from south coastal parts of Gujarat to southern parts of Konkan.
Heavy Monsoon rains lash Coastal Maharashtra
The West Coast of India has been witnessing good rains for the past few days. In fact, the last 24 hours have been a boon for the Konkan region. Several areas of the region have witnessed three digit rains including Mumbai where 141.7 mm of rain was recorded.

Konkan and Goa again records hefty showers
The West Coast of India has been receiving on and off rains. During last 24 hours as well, the region has witnessed moderate to heavy showers.
The reason for these hefty spells can be attributed to an offshore trough that persists from Gujarat to Coastal Karnataka. While, the Monsoon surge is also active over Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and parts of Kerala as well.
However, Konkan & Goa was already witnessing heavy to very heavy rains since last many days. Intensity of rains has also increased during last 24 hours. Most districts of Kerala region has recorded moderate showers.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, rainfall recorded in most of the stations in the west coast of India are given in the table below:

Gujarat | Dwarka | 50.0 |

Additionally, heavy rains are also expected to continue over Kerala and Goa for another 2-3 days. Thereafter, rain intensity will reduce. However, light to moderate spells are still expected to continue over the region.
Moreover, for Kerala, which has received subdued rains since last many days, is also expected to witness few good showers. These rains are also likely to continue over the state for another 48 hours. Post which, rain intensity will see a decrease and only isolated light rains will continue over Kerala.
Intensity of Monsoon rains to mellow down over West Coast
Good rains are going on over entire West Coast since last many days. Konkan & Goa in particular is the most active region in the West Coast of country. This is evident by the surplus rainfall figure of the 26%.
Coastal Karnataka is also receiving good rains but these showers are not enough to reach the normal rainfall figure of the region. Therefore, coastal Karnataka is still at negative at 17%.
But one of the most rain deficient regions is Kerala which is at present rain deficit by 27%. The fact remains that Kerala has not seen any heavy spell throughout the month of June and July. The state has received good rains in the first two weeks of June only, thereafter only light rain has occurred over the state.
Monsoon has remained subdued over Kerala for a while now.
But now we expect that Konkan & Goa to coastal Karnataka will continue with moderate showers with heavy spells at few places. The similar weather activity will be observed over with coastal Karnataka as well. But Kerala will continue to witness subdued rainfall act with light showers.
Rainfall intensity over West Coast of India is expected to decrease and moderate rain activity will continue due to the weakening of off-shore trough.

Both the system will continue to give good Monsoon rains over Coastal Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka during the next 24 hours as well.
Updated on July 29, 2016 10:50 AM: Konkan region in West Coast receives heavy Monsoon rains
The Southwest Monsoon seems to be active in the Konkan region of the West Coast of India. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala have received scattered rains during last 24 hours.
The feeble off-shore trough can be seen running along the Western Ghats. However, it is the cyclonic circulation lying over South Gujarat which has enhanced the Monsoon surge over the Konkan region.
Mumbai has received heavy showers during last 24 to 48 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Mumbai has received a whopping 110 mm of rain and there are chances of more heavy showers pounding the city till Friday evening.

North Konkan region and Goa will continue to receive good rains during next 24 hours. However, rest of the places will receive subdued rains. Scattered light to moderate rains will be observed in Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.
So far this Monsoon, Konkan & Goa subdivision has received normal rains to the tune of 16%. This is the best performing region in the West Coast. Kerala is rainfall deficient by 23% and Coastal Karnataka has received 13% less rains than the normal.
Updated on July 28, 2016 05:10 PM: West Coast continues with moderate Monsoon rains
At present there is a feeble trough seen running from Konkan & Goa coast to Kerala coast. This trough has further weakened and due to that since the last 2-3 days subdued rainfall activity has been witnessed over Kerala.
Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa region is receiving good rains but intensity wise the rainfall is not uniform. The intensity of rain varies from light to moderate to heavy over different areas of Konkan & Goa.
These patchy rains are due to absence of any significant weather system over West Coast. As of now moderate rainfall activity will go on over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and South Gujarat coast.
Rain will further reduce over Kerala coast and in further days to come, less rain is expected over the region.
Dahanu, Mumbai and Raigarh will continue to receive moderate showers across North Konkan & Goa. Chances of one or two heavy spell cannot be ruled out but the incessant extremely heavy rain activity is nowhere to be seen over entire West Coast.
Kerala is the most deficient region with rainfall deficiency of 23% which is followed by coastal Karnataka with below normal figures of 12%. It is only Konkan & Goa that has above normal rainfall with 18% rain surplus.

Updated on July 27, 2016 04:50 PM: West Coast witnesses moderate Monsoon rains
The Konkan region has received good rains during last 24 hours while Goa has received just 5.2 mm of rainfall.
Isolated places in Kerala have also seen heavy rains.
Hers is a list of rainfall recorded over West Coast in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Tuesday:
At present, we can see a cyclonic circulation lying over western parts of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining regions. Another one is hovering over Marathwada and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra region. Due to these two weather systems, the westerly surge along the West Coast could increase marginally. Konkan region will receive good showers during next 24 hours.
The westerly surge will persist along the Western Ghats for about 2 to 3 days. Moreover, the feeble off-shore trough can also be seen extending from South Konkan coast to Kerala coast. We can expect light to moderate rains over North Konkan to Karnataka coast. The southern parts of the West Coast will remain relatively dry.
Updated on July 26, 2016 09:00 AM: Ratnagiri in West Coast receives heavy Monsoon rains
Ratnagiri in the West Coast of India has received 115 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours. The feeble off-shore along the West Coast of India becomes a semi-permanent feature during the Monsoon season. This trough is responsible for the heavy spell of rain in Ratnagiri on Monday.
The last spell of heavy rains in Ratnagiri was witnessed on July 22 when the city had recorded 118 mm of rainfall.
At present, the off-shore trough is running from South Konkan to Kerala coast. During last 24 hours, this trough has brought scattered moderate to heavy rains over Konkan, parts of coastal Karnataka and coastal Kerala.
In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Mangalore has received 8 mm of rainfall, Honavar 10 mm, Dahanu 9 mm and Goa 4 mm.
We expect the trough to remain active along the West Coast. Most places in the region will receive good rains during next 24 to 48 hours.
Updated on July 25, 2016 05:45 PM: Good rains continue to lash West Coast of India
After receiving some good rains in the recent past, the rain belt over West Coast of India is expected to move a little bit south giving good rains over coastal Karnataka.
At present, the off-shore trough over West Coast is active from South Konkan & Goa to Kerala coast. During last 2 days the region has experienced fairly widespread moderate to heavy rains over South Konkan & Goa, parts of coastal Karnataka and coastal Kerala.
The coastal region of Karnataka has been receiving good rainfall for few days now but the adjacent coastal Kerala which received subdued rainfall till July 22 has also started receiving good rainfall due to the activation of fresh Monsoon surge over the area.
We expect good rains to continue over Kerala for another 24-48 hours, but thereafter the rainfall will reduce significantly. However coastal Karnataka will continue with frequent moderate to heavy showers which are expected to reduce after 24 hours.
But after 48 hours, rain intensity is likely to increase over Konkan & Goa. At present Kerala is rainfall deficient by 19%, whereas coastal Karnataka is 9% below normal. It is the Konkan & Goa which is rainfall surplus by 23%.
In the last 24 hours Goa received 67 mm of rainfall, Karwar received 107 mm, Honnavar 20 mm, Mangalore 34 mm, Kozhikode 6 mm and Punalur received 17 mm of rainfall.

Updated on July 24, 2016 03:30 PM: West Coast of India to continue with good rains
The West Coast of India has been receiving good showers from past couple of days. But not all places are lucky enough to get the incessant Monsoon rains. At present, a feeble off-shore trough is extending from Konkan & Goa to Kerala.
There is a cyclonic circulation that is brewing over West Madhya Pradesh. This weather system is likely to intensify the surge over North Konkan & Goa in the next 24 hours.
The cyclonic circulation will thus increase the rainfall activity over Coastal Maharashtra. But this increased intensity is expected to last for a short period of time.
Moderate to heavy spell is expected over South Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka. Kerala is one such place that received moderate and the similar expected over Kerala at some places.
In the last 24 hours, Mumbai has received very light rain but intensity is likely to increase with light to moderate spell of rain is expected over Mumbai in next 24 hours.
Places that received good rainfall over the West Coast are: Harnai received 141.3 mm of rainfall, Ratnagiri 40 mm, Goa 34.1 mm, Mangalore 38.8 mm, Karwar 40.2 mm and Kochi received 84 mm of rainfall.
Updated on July 23, 2016 04:00 PM: Good Monsoon rains to continue over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala
Good rains have been lashing several parts of West Coast for quite some time now. However, not all places in West Coast have been witnessing rainfall of the same intensity.
Currently, the fresh Monsoon surge has activated the off shore trough running along the West Coast. Currently, the trough is extending from Coastal Karnataka to Kerala.
As per Skymet Weather, two cyclonic circulations prevailing over Central Madhya Pradesh and Chattsigarh and adjoining areas respectively have activated the trough.
Due to this, moderate to heavy rains have already been recorded over parts of Coastal Karnataka and a few areas of Konkan region.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Harnai has received a whopping 192 mm of rain, while Verangula received 112 mm rainfall. Other areas to have received some rains include Honavar 70 mm and Mangalore 41 mm rainfall.
Meanwhile, Kerala which has been receiving light rains has also witnessed light to moderate rains. During the last 24 hours, Kudlu received 45.8 mm rain and Kozhikode recorded 49 mm of rainfall.
During the next 24 hours, rainfall intensity will increase over Coastal Karnataka. Also, Kerala will witness more Monsoon rains during the same time.
Updated on July 22, 2016 03:55 PM: Southern West Coast to get good Monsoon rains
Since last many days, Monsoon rain has been lashing the entire West Coast. But there has been a stark difference in the intensity of rainfall. There were places that received good heavy to very heavy rainfall and at the same time there were places that remained close to dry.
The good rainfall was witnessed over Central and Southern West Coast. South Konkan & Goa and Karnataka coast received good rain. But the North West Coast and South Coast of Kerala rainfall was subdued.
Kerala is one such state that receives plenty rainfall in Monsoon but somehow this time around it is the only state that is running below normal by 19% whereas all the other states in the country are receiving normal rainfall.
But the good news is that we are expecting that the Monsoon surge will once again get strong in the next 3-4 days and the rain intensity will increase over entire Kerala. The coastal regions will receive moderate rain with few heavy spells at a few places.
Coastal Karnataka will continue with its moderate showers, though extremely heavy rain will not occur for the next few days but good rain will continue.
Sindhudurg and Goa will also continue with good rains. Raigarh, Dahanu and Mumbai along with south coastal Gujarat will get subdued rainfall after 24-48 hours.
So we can say that the rain belt is expected to move from northern West Coast to south West Coast.

Updated on July 21, 2016 11:15 AM: Parts of West Coast to witness subdued Monsoon rains
Monsoon has once again picked up pace over most parts of West Coast particularly over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka. However, Coastal Gujarat and Kerala still witness subdued rainfall activities.
Rain intensity over Kerala has seen a significant drop and this condition is likely to continue for another 24 hours and Kerala might witness only light to moderate rains.
Hers is a list of rainfall recorded over most parts of West Coast in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Wednesday:
After 48 hours, Monsoon surge over southern parts of West Coast, particularly over Kerala, will intensify and moderate to heavy rains are likely to commence over the state and adjoining coastal stations of Karnataka.
However, after a span of two days, rain intensity is expected to decrease over Konkan & Goa.
Updated on July 20, 2016 01:15 PM: Monsoon rains intensify over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka
Rains have finally intensified along the West Coast on account of active to vigorous Monsoon conditions. Moderate to heavy rains were recorded over many parts of Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka. Few places have also recorded extremely heavy Monsoon showers.
Mumbai also continued with the heavy Monsoon rains during the last 24 hours. According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the off-shore trough running along the West Coast that has been activated with the fresh Monsoon surge.
However, Monsoon remained subdued over Kerala, which received mainly light rains only.
Further, similar weather conditions will continue during the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers will continue over Coastal Maharashtra, Goa, and Coastal Karnataka.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded across the region in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.
Updated on July 19, 2016 05:15 PM: Monsoon rains picks up pace across West Coast
Monsoon rains have finally picked up pace along the entire West Coast, giving moderate to heavy rains. According to Skymet Weather, the feeble off-shore trough running along the West Coast has been activated once again with the fresh Monsoon surge. The trough is now extending from Maharashtra up to Kerala across Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
With this, Mumbai that has not witnessed any significant Monsoon showers so far in the month, has also recorded some heavy showers.
Weathermen predict that similar weather activity will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. Following are the rainfall figures recorded across the region in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday.
Updated on July 18, 2016 11:15 AM: Rains lash West Coast, likely to last for another 24 hours
Rain over West Coast has remained subdued for last many days but now the rainfall in this area has again become active. Fairly widespread rains has been observed over Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, and North Kerala.
A feeble trough has once again developed over Karnataka and Kerala Coast. An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over east central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of North Kerala along with Karnataka.
Here is a list of rainfall recorded in last 24 hours in various parts of West Coast from 08:30 am as on Sunday:
However, moderate rains at many places along with wet spells at a few places are expected over Konkan & Goa and Karnataka including the north coastal Kerala region for another 24 hours.
Thereafter, rains are likely to reduce over Kerala but expected to linger over coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa.
Updated on July 17, 2016 16:15 PM: West Coast to get good Monsoon rains soon
Due to the weakening of the off-shore trough, the West Coast of India was unable to receive the usual heavy Monsoon rains and the intensity of rain remained lower side.
But a fresh cyclonic circulation can be seen over East-central Arabian Sea adjacent to the areas of North Kerala and Karnataka coast. The weakened off-shore trough is also running from this system to South Gujarat.
The cyclonic circulation can increase the off-shore trough. Due to these weather activities we can expect that rain intensity will increase over West Coast.
From July 20 onwards due to the weakening of off-shore trough, rain intensity is expected to decrease.
Coastal Kerala is at present rain deficient by 15%. But in comparison, Konkan & Goa is rain surplus by 19%. The area between coastal Kerala and Konkan & Goa, i.e. coastal Karnataka that is balanced. Updated on July 16, 2016 12:12 PM: Monsoon rains pick up pace along Coastal Karnataka and Kerala
After witnessing subdued Monsoon rains for the last few days, rains activity has finally picked up pace along the few parts of West Coast. Both Coastal Karnataka and Kerala have recorded moderate to heavy showers during the last 24 hours.
These rains can be attributed to the off-shore trough running along the West Coast, which is active over parts of Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
As on July 15, Konkan & Goa was rain surplus by 22%, while Kerala was deficit by 14%. There have been also a dip in the seasonal rainfall in Coastal Karnataka, wherein 2% surplus rains dropped to 0%.
During the next 24 hours, similar weather conditions are likely to continue wherein moderate showers are expected over Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Rest of the regions will witness light to moderate rains only.
Following are the rainfall figures recorded across the region in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.
Updated on July 15, 2016 12:12 PM: Light rain to continue over West Coast
West Coast is witnessing subdued rainfall since last few days. Most of the regions have witnessed light to moderate rainy spells.
As on July 14, Konkan & Goa was 25 percent rain surplus, while Coastal Karnataka was 2 percent rain surplus. Rains have remained deficient for Kerala and are still 14 percent less than its normal range.
Given below are the rainfall figures in a few pockets of West Coast observed during last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday:
Further, it is expected that the offshore trough will remain weak for another 2 to 3 days leading to reduced rainfall all along the West Coast.
By July 18, rain activities are likely to increase over Konkan and Goa & Coastal Karnataka and these states may witness light to moderate showers. But Kerala rains will remain subdued.
Updated on July 14, 2016 11:41 AM: Light rains likely over West Coast
The offshore trough over West Coast has now become less marked. However, a feeble trough can still be seen from South Konkan & Goa to Kerala.
Rain intensity will further reduce over West Coast particularly over South Gujarat, Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka.
Scattered light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Kerala. This scenario is expected to last for another 48 hours thereafter, a fresh monsoon surge may again activate the offshore trough.
Rain intensity over West Coast is again likely to intensify from July 17. This would also lead to an increase in the ongoing subdued rainfall over Konkan & Goa. Additionally, few parts of these regions may also witness some moderate to heavy showers.
Given below are the rainfall figures observed during last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday:
Updated on July 13, 2016 11:41 AM: Subdued rainfall likely to persist over parts of West Coast
The entire West coast excluding North Konkan & Goa has been experiencing moderate rains at many places along with a few heavy spells at some places. However, North Konkan & Goa is witnessing subdued Monsoon rains.
Moreover, North Kerala, Karnataka and South Konkan & Goa are the most active areas along the West Coast.
The offshore trough is now seen only from Goa to North Kerala. This would result in subdued or light rains over North Konkan & Goa and South Kerala. This off shore trough is once again likely to get activated by July 16 or July 17 resulting in increased rainfall over entire West Coast from Konkan & Goa to Kerala.
Given below are the rainfall figures observed during last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday:
Updated on July 12, 2016 12:50 PM: Heavy rains in parts of West Coast to continue
Rainfall had remained subdued over West Coast since last 2-3 days. However, during the last 24 hours, parts of Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa have received very light rains.
Coastal Karnataka has witnessed moderate to heavy showers. Whereas, vigorous rainfall was observed in parts of Kerala where most of the stations have also recorded a good three digit rainfall.
This is due to an off-shore trough extending from Konkan & Goa across Kerala which is causing light rainy spells over parts of Maharashtra.
In the next 24 hours, similar rain patterns are expected to follow. Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa are likely to receive very light showers. Coastal Karnataka is expected to witness moderate to heavy showers while Kerala will see hefty Monsoon rains.
Given below are the rainfall figures observed during last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday:
Updated on July 11, 2016 01:01 PM: Rain intensity fluctuates over West Coast
West Coast has been receiving on and off light rain since many days. However, a heavy rainy spell has remained absent so far in July.
Since last 2-3 days, rainfall over West coast remained subdued. Very light rain continued over parts of Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
Intensity has however picked up pace in last 24 hours. Good rain of 66 mm occurred over Ratnagiri in Maharashtra and 150 mm rain occurred over Agumbe in Karnataka.
The offshore trough that runs along the West Coast is once again active and is likely to give moderate to heavy rain over parts of West Coast during next 2-3 days.
Updated on July 10, 2016 01:35 PM: Rains pick up pace over West Coast
Monsoon rains remained subdued over parts of West Coast. So much so that many areas were witnessing rainfall in single digits for the past few days.
While Kerala continued to witnessed good rains, only light rainfall was being observed over parts of Konkan and Goa as well as Coastal Karnataka.
However, now rains have finally picked up pace over many parts of West Coast including Konkan and Goa along with Coastal Karnataka.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Mangalore recorded a good 68 mm of rain followed by Ratnagiri where 55 mm of rainfall was recorded.
Kerala also recorded good rains during the last 24 hours. While Kozhikode received 38 mm of rain, Kannur recorded 27 mm of rainfall during the same time span.
More rains are likely over parts of the West Coast as the cyclonic circulation which is over Madhya Pradesh will activate the Monsoon trough even further.
Updated on July 9: Monsoon rains to pick up pace along West Coast
Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka have been witnessing subdued Monsoon rains for the last few days and last 24 hours were no different.
Honavar recorded mere 1.8 mm of rains in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. This was followed by Karwar 2.2, Dahanu 8 mm, Ratnagiri 14 mm and Mumbai 11.4 mm.
However, Kerala was the only region in the West Coast which has recorded good Monsoon rains. Kannur received 43 mm of rain, Thiruvananthapuram 36 mm, and Kozhikode 14 mm.
However during the next 24 hours, rains are likely to pick up pace and good Monsoon rains will return all along the West Coast, particularly over Mumbai. This will be on account the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Madhya Pradesh which will activate the off-shore trough running from North Maharashtra up to Kerala.
Updated on July 8: Heavy showers in store for the West Coast
Since last 24 hours, West Coast has witnessed a reduced rain activity. Konkan and Goa have observed subdued rains since last 3 to 4 days.
Reason for this reduced rainfall is the weakening of the offshore trough which was running from South Gujarat to Kerala coast.
Currently, this trough is running from coastal Karnataka to Kerala coast. This is the reason for less rains over Konkan and Goa.
The trough over Konkan and Goa is likely to strengthen inducing good rainfall. The rain intensity is also likely to pick up pace over entire West Coast from July 9.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, following are the regions of Western Coast that have witnessed rainfall:
Updated on July 7: Rain intensity likely to pick up pace over parts of West Coast
From past few days, rain over Kerala has remained subdued, however, during last 2 to 3 days, rain intensity has picked up pace. On the contrary, rain became subdued over Konkan and Goa which was observing heavy to extremely heavy rains.
Light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers are still continuing over coastal Karnataka. Good showers are likely to continue over Kerala as well.
After 24 hours, rain intensity is once again likely to gain strength over Konkan and Goa along with South Gujarat.
Mumbai, which had not received rains from past 2 to 3 days will also witness the rain intensity picking up pace. The city along with some adjoining areas may also witness some hefty showers from July 9 onwards.
Given below are the rainfall figures observed during last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday:
Updated on July 6: Heavy rain has remained persistent over coastal Karnataka and coastal parts of Maharashtra during last 24 hours. While some parts have received three digital rainfall, others managed to observe moderate rain in the same span.
Though Mumbai did not receive heavy rain in last 24 hours, other coastal parts of Maharashtra received fairly widespread heavy rain. Parts of Karnataka and Kerala also faired well during the span of last 24 hours.
Due to incessant rain, the maximum temperature in most of the cities on West Coast has been settling 2-3 degrees Celsius below than the normal.
Following are the rainfall figures recorded along the West Coast in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.
Owing to the active Monsoon surge along the West Coast, southern part of the coast will receive heavy rain for next 2 days while northern portion will witness moderate to light rain.
Published on July 5: Monsoon active over West Coast, good rains to continue
Southwest Monsoon remains active along the West Coast on account of the off-shore trough running from Konkan & Goa up to Kerala.
In wake of the active Monsoon surge, moderate to heavy showers were recorded over several parts of North Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa including Mumbai. Few parts of Goa have also witnessed extremely heavy Monsoon rains.
According to Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh has kept the trough active over the region. Further, we expect this system to retain its strength and move in west-northwest direction.
With this, trough will remain active along the West Coast and good Monsoons rains will continue all along during the next 24 to 48 hours as well. However, intensity of rains will be more over Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
The prevailing trough is a semi-permanent feature during the Monsoon and is primarily responsible for pounding good rains along the West Coast during the four-month long season. But, it is not necessary for the trough to be marked all along the West Coast at the same time.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded along the West Coast in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday.
