Delhi and NCR observes shallow fog
Feb 6, 2017 06:30 AM
Delhi including the surrounding areas was observing fog-free mornings for a long time. Minimums over these regions have increased giving a feel like of abatement of fog and end of winter chills.
However, fog made a comeback once again over a few areas of northwest plains including the national capital. Areas like Janakpuri and Faridabad observed shallow fog. The visibility recorded at the Palam airport, Delhi early morning today was 100 meters. This has further led to disruptions in air traffic.
Close to seven flights departing from Indira Gandhi airport, Delhi faced delays or rescheduling. Check the flight status here:
As per Skymet weather, the reason for fog to make a comeback in northwest India including Delhi and adjoining regions can be attributed to the recent occurrence of light rains at a few parts over northwest plains. These light rains further led the minimum temperatures to drop once again also leading to increase in humidity levels.
Moreover, light wind speed too made its contributions in letting the fog to rise once again over Delhi and NCR. The reason for these rains can be attributed to active Western Disturbance over North Pakistan and adjoining parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas.
As of now, the similar weather pattern is expected to persist and shallow fog is likely to continue in Delhi and its surrounding regions for another 2-3 days.
Foggy mornings continue over the national capital
Feb 03, 2017 07:45 AM
Foggy mornings had become a distant memory for the residents of
Delhi and the NCR region last week. So much so that good visibility was observed over almost the entire city. However, the last few days have been foggy enough for the city. Moderate to dense fog has made a comeback over the national capital. Today, parts of the city witnessed moderate fog. In fact, the visibility at the Palam Airport was recorded at a mere 400 metres today. Other parts of the city also reported shallow fog. Areas including Chandni Chowk, Uttam Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Noida, Gurugram, RK Puram and Faridabad witnessed shallow fog. A few trains as well as flight delays were also reported due to the fog. While ten flights were delayed, at least 70 trains across the country were late. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well.
Another foggy morning for Delhi NCR
Feb 2, 2017 7:30 AM
Dense fog continued to grip parts of
Delhi-NCR for the fourth consecutive day. On Thursday, Palam Observatory reported dense fog with the visibility dropping to 100 meters. As a result, at least 10 flights were delayed or rescheduled. Rest of the areas such as Gurgaon, R K Puram, Mayur Vihar, Green Park, AIIMS, Dhaula Kuan, and Akshardham also reported shallow to moderate fog. According to Skymet Weather, similar weather conditions will continue for another 24 hours and we can fog will still be seen gripping several parts of the national capital. As reiterated earlier, overnight cooling of earth surface leads to condensation near the ground. Moreover, winds are light in nature and levels of humidity also continues to high. All these factors result in formation of fog. However, such fog stay for a short duration and starts clearing away the region as soon as the sun rises and temperatures starts increasing.
Dense fog engulfs Delhi, visibility drops to nil
Feb 1, 2017 8:10 AM
Dense to very dense fog engulfed several parts of
Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning. Palam Observatory reported very dense fog, with visibility dropping to zero. This was followed by Safdarjung Observatory that witnessed visibility of 50 meters. In wake of this, several flights, both international and domestic have been re-scheduled or delayed. Places such as Dhaula Kuan, Greater Kailash, Akshardham, AIIMS, Uttam Nagar, South Extension, R K Puram, Rajouri Garden, Janak Puri, Mayur Vihar, Gurgaon, Noida and Indirapuram also witnessed shallow to moderate. We can expect fog to clear up soon with the bright sunshine making its way. According to Skymet Weather, present weather conditions are favourable for the formation of the fog over the national capital. Clear weather conditions lead to overnight cooling of earth surface which results in condensation near the ground surface. Also, winds are very light and level of moisture is also very high during the morning hours. All these conditions result in formation of fog. Weathermen predict similar weather conditions to prevail for another 24 hours, wherein Delhi-NCR will continue to be under the grip of moderate to dense fog.
Delhi wakes up to a moderate foggy morning
Jan 31, 2017 08:30 AM
In the last 2 days, Delhi had witnessed very dense fog in the early hours of the day. Dense fog build up in the last two days was so thick that the landing operations at Delhi Airport were suspended for couple of hours. But as of today morning only shallow to moderate fog is witnessed by many areas of the city. The western parts of the city saw almost no fog build up, but many other areas of Delhi witnessed moderate fog. Chandni Chowk along with many areas of NOIDA witnessed shallow fog, Lakshmi Nagar Faridabad and many other areas witnessed moderate fog.
The show of fog over the residential areas was less compared to the large vacant spaces. Due to moderate fog at Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway, a car reportedly hit the divider of the road. No casualty was reported from the accident.
Due to moderate fog build up, seven international flights and six domestic flights were delayed at the Delhi Airport. Around 34 trains that were supposed to reach Delhi are running late due to fog.
Dense fog shrouds Delhi and NCR again
Jan 30, 2017 06:30 AM
After witnessing sunny days for quite a few weeks, dense fog has again engulfed most parts of the country including
Delhi and NCR. People staying in most of the northern states including the capital of the country and its nearby regions woke up to witness dense to very dense fog today early morning. Shallow fog has been observed over areas like Janakpuri and Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Faridabad and Noida too witnessed moderate to shallow fog. Palam airport recorded nil visibility leading to air and rail traffic disruptions. At the Indira Gandhi Airport, New Delhi, 12 flights scheduled to depart have been delayed while three flights scheduled to arrive have also experienced delay or reschedule. Check the flight status
here. Moreover, 50 trains are said to have been affected by the fog. Train status can be checked
here. As per Skymet Weather, the reason for dense to very dense fog shrouding parts of Indo-Gangetic plains including the national capital and adjoining regions can be attributed to the recent occurrence of rain which had fallen in most parts of North India. These rains led to increase in humidity levels thereby also dipping temperatures over the northern plains. Moreover, the speed of wind is also less. This has resulted in development of dense to very dense fog over North India. Furthermore, similar foggy condition is expected to persist for another two to three days over Delhi and NCR.

Palam Airport reports dense fog, rain in offing
Jan 23, 2017 06:30 AM
Delhi and NCR region have been witnessing cold weather conditions with fog in some parts of the city. In fact, the night temperatures also plummeted significantly over the city as well as its adjoining regions. For the past two to three days, shallow fog has been observed over the city, with clear skies in later half of the day making the weather tolerable. However, the Palam Airport reported dense
fog with the visibility dropping to 200 meters early in the morning. According to Skymet Weather, two successive Western Disturbances will affect the hills of North India. Due to this, the hills of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will record moderate to heavy rain and snow. Moreover, its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining parts of Rajasthan will give rain and thundershowers over northwest plains. With this, minimums will continue to see an upward trend. During the next 24 hours or so, weather conditions in terms of fog will remain the same. Due to such weather conditions, at least 7
flights including both arrivals and departures have been delayed. Only 15
trains were delayed across the country. Along with Delhi,
Lucknow recorded a shallow foggy morning with visibility dropping to 800 meters.
Amritsar’s visibility drops down to 550 meters.
City continues to witness shallow fog
Jan 23, 2017 06:30 AM
Fog has been almost abated from most parts of North India now. Initial days of the month brought days of dense to very dense fog shrouding over the northern plains of the country including
Delhi and its adjoining regions. Winter has tightened its grip on the northern plains of the country since 2017. All thanks to multiple western disturbances showing up this year that led the winters to set its foot in North India. Due to this, people residing in the national capital along with adjoining regions who were deprived of the winter chills, felt it since January began. However, shallow fog was observed at a few pockets in the national capital region today as well. Low visibility of 200 meters was recorded during the early morning hours today at the Palam Airport, making it a shallow foggy morning. However, no flights were delayed or rescheduled due to this weather condition. Check the flight status. Moreover, visibility at
Amritsar was also recorded at 800 meters. As per Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the northern hills of the country on January 24. This will result in heavy to very heavy snow in the hills of North India. Moreover, the northern plains are also likely to witness some rainy spells from January 24 until January 27. This will further lead to abatement of foggy condition in the plains of north India however, fog is likely to make a comeback henceforth. During this time, minimums that are on rising trend will scale up further while the maximum temperatures are expected to plummet down.
Delhi Fog: Shallow fog continues to engulf Sunday morning
Jan 22, 2017 08:00 AM
Delhi and its neighboring regions are still witnessing a cold morning with show of fog in various parts of the city. Even though the density of the fog still remains shallow, the clear skies in later half of the day makes the weather tolerable. But all this is going to change as Delhi may get some good
rainy spell around Republic Day. In December 2016, the city experienced mild winters but with January 2017 and multiple western disturbances in northern hills showing up the winter seem to have gripped the city in its paws. Around January 24, 2017 another fresh western disturbance will approach the hills of North India. This system is likely to give good rains over the northern plains. As far as today morning, the visibility at Palam airport of Delhi was at 600 meters, depicting shallow fog over the city. Even most parts of the city linger with the shallow fog which is most likely to shoo away as the day progresses.
Due to such weather conditions, 17 trains are running late; 10 flights are delayed in departure with 7 flights on arrival are delayed. Along with Delhi, Lucknow recorded a shallow foggy morning with visibility pluming down to 800 meters. Amritsar’s visibility drops down to 750 meters. With the incoming rainy spell over Delhi, shallow foggy mornings are likely to go away with temperatures pluming further down.
Palam Airport reports nil visibility, city reports shallow fog
Jan 20, 2017 07:20 AM
North Indian plains along with
Delhi and the NCR region once again observed a fog free morning with shallow fog in some parts. These conditions can be attributed to the presence of dry northwesterly winds which have been resulting in clear weather conditions. Weather conditions are expected to witness no significant change during the next 24 hours. However, Palam Airport in Delhi continued to witness very dense fog. So much so that the visibility here dropped to nil which is due to localized factors. Due to this, there have been several delays in arrivals and departures at the Delhi Airport. Other areas of Delhi and the NCR region witnessed shallow fog. Areas including Uttam Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Noida and Lakshmi Nagar reported shallow fog. Shallow fog was also observed in Luckow and Goakhpur with the visibility dropping to 800 metres.
Palam reports zero visibility, rest remains fog free
Jan 19, 2017 7:45 AM
Delhi-NCR continue to witness fog free mornings, barring the areas of Palam. On Thursday, Palam observatory reported very dense fog with visibility dropping to nil. In wake of this, 11 flights were delayed which included both domestic and international flights. According to Skymet Weather, Palam usually witness dense fog due to the localised factors that include large open areas with lots of greenery. Meanwhile, rest parts of the national capital enjoyed a clear and chilly morning. Further, similar weather conditions will continue for at least another 24 to 48 hours. As per the weathermen, until and unless these ongoing dry and cold winds will not die down, fog is likely to stay away. However, we expect these winds to die down soon and thus, fog may make a comeback over the region.
Very dense fog at Palam Airport, city remains fog free
Jan 17, 2017 08:15 AM
Delhi and the NCR region along with other parts of North Indian plains witnessed another fog free morning. The presence of dry northwesterly winds have been keeping foggy conditions at bay. So much so that the conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well. However, very dense fog continued to engulf the Palam Airport where the visibility dropped to a mere 100 metres. These conditions can be attributed to localized factors. Due to this, at least 11
flights including both arrivals and departures have been delayed at the
Delhi Airport. As far as other areas in Delhi and the NCR region are concerned, fog free mornings continued over the city. Only isolated pockets including Uttam Nagar reported shallow fog. Train delays across the country have also reduced and only 13
trains were delayed across the country.
Winter rain in Delhi keeps fog at bay
January 15, 2017 07:30 AM
Over the last 7-10 days,
Delhi and its neighbouring areas have managed to keep dense layer of fog at bay. This is also the reason why Delhi observed its lowest minimum temperature of the season with temperatures pluming down to 3.2°C on January 14, 2017. Last night Delhi along with many areas of
Punjab and
Haryana witnessed light rain. This weather activity has managed to keep fog free Delhi with only Palam observatory recording shallow fog with visibility dropping to 1100 metres. Visibility over rest parts of the city is clear with partly cloudy to cloudy sky prevailing over the region. This fresh spell of rainfall is due to the approach of Western Disturbance over the hilly regions of Jammu & Kashmir and
Himachal Pradesh; along with this the cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab has given light rains over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. But looking at the current scenario for Delhi-NCR, weather patterns will see a change wherein minimum temperatures will rise giving Delhi relief from cold wave conditions. Few areas of Delhi may see light rain today as well. Post this short rainy spell, the wind pattern is likely to change; cold and dry northwesterly winds are now replaced by relatively warm and humid south-easterlies. With change in wind pattern and inclusion of moisture laden winds fog may make a comeback over Haryana, Punjab and Delhi-NCR.

Most areas remain fog free, Palam witness shallow fog
Jan 12, 2017 06:20
Delhi and the NCR region have been witnessing cold weather conditions with minimum temperature plummeting significantly. For the past few days, fog has remained abated from the city. However, the Palam Airport witnessed shallow to moderate
fog with the visibility dropping to 500 metres early in the morning. During the next 24 hours or so, weather conditions are likely to remain the same in terms of fog. Delhi witnessed a steep fall in temperature yesterday with minimums dropping to 4 degree Celsius. The drop in temperature can be attributed to change in the wind pattern from warm and humid easterlies to dry and cold northwesterlies. These icy cold winds are blowing directly from snow clad mountains in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Being dry in nature, it has also reduced the level of humidity significantly in the atmosphere.
Due to the shallow persistence of fog, there have been 5 flight delays including both arrivals as well as departures. Not only this, 11 trains have also been delayed across the country.
Delhi remains fog free, Palam Airport records low visibility
Jan 10, 2017 07:45 AM
Delhi and the NCR region have been witnessing chilly weather conditions with the city observing fog free mornings. For the past few days, fog has remained far away from the city. However, the Palam Airport witnessed shallow to moderate fog with the visibility dropping to 500 metres early in the morning. During the next 24 hours or so, weather conditions in terms of fog will remain the same as of today, which means foggy conditions will remain at bay with the visibility dropping at a few empty areas only. The minimum and maximum temperatures have also registered a drop due to the change in the wind pattern and a further drop is likely during the next 24 hours as well. There have been some
flight delays today amounting to 10 including both arrivals as well as departures. Not only this, 35
trains have also been delayed across the country.
Delhi witness shallow fog, chilly winters to make a comeback
Jan 08, 2016 07:55 AM
Yesterday morning, Delhi experienced its first spell of winter rains. These rains have made sure that the fog which was prevailing over Delhi and NCR doesn’t show up. But as of today morning, shallow fog peeked through the empty areas of Delhi. Today morning, the visibility at Palam observatory was recorded at 800 meters. The current weather condition can be attributed to the feeble cyclonic circulation which is prevailing over Punjab and adjoining Haryana.
With fog making a minor comeback and change in wind pattern expected from easterlies to icy cold dry northwesterly, the minimum temperatures are likely to drop significantly along with maximum temperatures. Due to the shallow persistence of fog, 41 trains have been delayed, 14 have been rescheduled and 5 trains have been cancelled. The situation is not so grim at Delhi Airport as 7 international flights have been delayed with only 1 cancellation. The change in wind patterns have made sure that the fog is likely to make a comeback along with the drop in temperature. These winds will once again drop the temperatures and mark the return of fog over the northern plains including Delhi.
Rain in Delhi NCR keeps fog at bay
Jan 7, 2016 7:35 AM
As predicted by Skymet Weather,
Delhi NCR continued to witness fog free mornings. All thanks to the cyclonic circulation prevailing over Punjab and adjoining Haryana. The system has changed the wind pattern to easterlies, which has led to significant increase in minimum temperatures over the national capital. Moreover, the system has also given scattered rain over the several parts of the city during the early morning hours. With system likely to persist, we expect fog to remain at bay over Delhi-NCR for at least next 24 hours. Thereafter, the system will move away from the region, paving way for the icy cold and dry northwesterly winds. These winds will once again drop the temperatures and mark the return of fog over the northern plains including Delhi.
Delhi continues with fog in pockets
Jan 4, 2017 7:10 AM
Dense fog continues to evade
Delhi-NCR for several days now, barring few pockets. Places like Palam recorded moderate fog with the visibility dropping to 300 meters but it was due to localised factors. As a result, Wednesday morning saw 22 flights were being delayed that included 12 in departure and 11 in arrival. Similarly, Anand Vihar and Noida Yamuna Expressway too witnessed moderate fog, while Lakshmi Nagar reported shallow fog. Rest of the areas remained fog free with good visibility conditions. According to Skymet Weather, we expect national capital to continue with shallow to moderate fog for the next 24 hours only.
Shallow fog persisted over National Capital with dense fog in parts
Jan 03, 2017 07:30 AM
The persistence of fog continued over
Delhi and its neighboring regions on the third morning of New Year. Only on Christmas day in December, almost entire Delhi witnessed a thick layer of fog otherwise isolated place of Delhi is witnessing light to moderate fog. But despite the shallow persistence of fog, the typical wintery chill in Delhi seems to be missing. Only on a few occasions around December 29, the chill in the air was witnessed but the mercury remained strict and didn’t fall down than usual. As of today morning, most areas of Delhi and NCR witnessed shallow to moderate fog. Chandni Chowk, Faridabad, Anand Vihar witnessed shallow fog only. But places in West Delhi like Uttam Nagar, Janak Puri, Pashchim Vihar witnessed very dense fog. Even few areas of South Delhi like Vasant Kunj, RK Puram and Munirka witnessed similar foggy conditions. Delhi’s Palam observatory observed nil visibility during the early morning hours of the day, but it is expected that as the day progresses the weather is most likely to clear up. Due to varied intensity of fog, 55 trains have been delayed, 22 have been rescheduled and 6 trains have been cancelled due to persistence of fog over the Delhi. In totality, 11 flights have been delayed due to persistence of fog over the city.
With the approach of a strong and active Western Disturbance which will provide good rain and snowfall over the hills of north India, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over North Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. Due to this formation of new weather system in the neighboring areas of Delhi, chances of shower cannot be ruled out. These showers are very much likely to clear up the skies for the time being and bring the typical wintery chill over Delhi and NCR. Shallow fog continue to persist over Delhi NCR
January 2, 2017 07:30 AM
New Year kick started with a foggy morning on the first day of the year. Though Dense to very dense
fog was still not witnessed in parts of the national capital and surrounding regions. The chilly winters that the Delhities were awaiting for has finally made a comeback on December 29 that continues until January 1 and mild fog was observed on January 2 as well. The early hours of the Palam Airport,
Delhi recorded low visibility of 150 meters. While most of the other regions witnessed moderate to shallow fog. Regions like Faridabad and Anand Vihar witnessed shallow fog, moderate fog was witnessed in Noida at sector 17, Sector 18 and other areas of the city. No fog was witnessed in Janakpuri. The reason for the foggy weather can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation persisting over
Rajasthan and Haryana. Due to this several flights and trains have been delayed. Close to 11 flights departing including 13 in arrival from and to the Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed.Check the
flight states here. Several trains were also delayed for which you can get the update
here. As per Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance which was over North Pakistan and
Jammu and Kashmir has shifted away and thus the fog intensity is expected to reduce. Moreover, the sky is clear thus sun is expected to come up in the afternoon. However, another Western Disturbance is expected to form which will again lead to moderate to dense fog formation at a few pockets of the national capital and thw adjoining regions.
Shallow Foggy Start Off 2017 For National Capital
Jan 1, 2017 06:25 AM
New Year seems to be quite a generous one for Delhiites, as the National Capital recorded clear morning with less fog compared to yesterday. During the early morning hours, Palam Airport reported fog with the visibility dropping to 300 meters. Several areas of the city also witnessed shallow
fog. Till now, winters have remained mild over
Delhi and its neighboring regions. Though temperatures have dropped to below 7 degrees Celsius in Delhi NCR, but the cold weather remained absent. Fog was also witnessed in many parts however the weather remains clear and sunny. The clear weather conditions were credited to the dry northwesterly winds which were blowing over the region. Due to low minimum temperatures, high levels of humidity and light wind speed, fog has made a comeback over the National Capital. These conditions can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation persisting over Rajasthan and Haryana. Due to this, at least sixteen
flights have been delayed flying to and from Delhi. As far as railway traffic is concerned, 122
trains in total are running extremely late due to fog. Conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well.
Fog makes a comeback over Delhi NCR
Dec 31, 2016 7:30 AM
As predicted by Skymet Weather, fog has once again make a comeback over
Delhi-NCR. On Saturday morning, Palam reported dense fog with the visibility dropping to 100 meters. Faridabad too reported dense fog during the early morning hours, while the places such as Anand Vihar, East of Kailash, Uttam Nagar, Dilshad Garden, and Noida observed shallow to moderate fog. According to Weathermen, Delhi is presently witnessing low night temperatures, increased levels of humidity and light wind speed. All thanks to the cyclonic circulation which has developed over Delhi and Haryana. These factors are conducive for the formation of fog over the region. The fog cover will not let the bright sunshine reach earth surface, which may also curtail the day temperatures. Hazy sunshine may appear for a short duration and Delhi may witness drop in day temperatures leading to cold day ahead. Fog over varied intensity will continue over the national capital during the next 24 to 48 hours as well. Thus, we can expect colder days ahead.
Delhi Fog: Delhi witness fog in pockets, dense fog expected tomorrow
Dec 30, 2016 07:00 AM
After December 25, dense fog seems to have abated from the National Capital as the city once again experiences another fog free morning as of today. The Palam observatory in
Delhi has reported dense fog, with the visibility dropping to 300 meters; this is most probably due to the localized factor. Few parts of
Noida, Faridabad witnessed shallow fog but most parts of Delhi remains fog free. But this situation is likely to change very soon. According to Skymet Weather, in wake of passage of a feeble Western Disturbance, moderate northwesterly winds have been blowing over the northern plains. These winds are dry and cold in nature and are allowing the formation of shallow fog over the northern plains including the national capital. But an active Western Disturbance is seen over northern hills of India which is most likely to give good rain and snow over the hills allowing the northwesterly winds to remain absent. Thus, allowing dense fog to settle in over the National Capital and adjoining areas from tomorrow onwards. So it is most likely that Delhi-NCR will enter New Year under a thick layer of fog,

Delhi witnesses fog in pockets
Dec 28, 2016 7:15 AM
Delhiites continue to witness
fog free mornings over most parts of the city barring few pockets. Places such as Palam has reported dense fog, with the visibility dropping to 100 meters, which was purely due to the localised factor. Due to this, 12
flights were delayed that included eight departure flights and four flights in arrival. Meanwhile, rest of places remained almost clear with light mist or shallow fog. Visibility conditions were also good over
Delhi NCR. According to Skymet Weather, in absence of any active Western Disturbance, moderate northwesterly winds have been blowing over the northern plains. Being dry and cold in nature, these winds are allowing the formation of fog over the northern plains including the national capital. However, moderate to dense fog is likely to make a comeback over the city very soon. Weathermen predict a fresh Western Disturbance approaching Jammu and Kashmir. This is also likely to induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Haryana. These systems will soon change the wind pattern from northwesterly to humid easterlies. The increase in moisture level in the atmosphere along with lower minimum temperatures will once again lead to formation of moderate to dense fog over Delhi NCR.
Another foggy morning for Delhiites
Dec 27, 2016 6:40
A drastic change in the morning weather conditions were observed over
Delhi-NCR in past couple of days. Foggy mornings have made a comeback over the national capital and its neighboring areas. For a very long time since the onset of winters in Delhi, nights as well as morning were extremely clear. Almost all places reported good visibility. The reason behind the absence of fog can be attributed to the dry and cold northwesterly winds blowing over the region. Today, during the early morning hours, Palam Airport reported very low visibility at a mere 50 metres. Other parts of the city also witnessed fog. Due to this, at least eleven flights have been delayed flying to and from Delhi. As far as trains are concerned, 36 trains in total are running extremely late due to fog.Conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well with fog being recorded in isolated areas. However, the fog intensity is expected to gradually decrease.
Dense fog continues to envelop Delhi NCR
Dec 26, 2016 07:30 AM
People in
Delhi and adjoining areas woke up to
foggy morning the second consecutive day today as well. In fact, it is after a long time now that the national capital and its neighboring regions have had the foggy morning since the first week of December. The extent of the density of fog can be made out of the fact that Delhi’s Palam airport recorded a zero visibility during early morning hours. The shallow fog was observed at places like Anand Vihar, New Ashok Nagar, Mayur Vihar Phase three and Chandni Chowk, however, Janakpuri in the national capital has not witnessed fog. Most of the flights and trains have been either delayed or canceled. Altogether eight flights were reported to have been delayed due to dense fog while two were canceled.
Track the flight status here 55 trains have also been said to have been delayed due to dense fog.
Track the train status here As of now, the northwesterly winds may become moderate thereby reducing the intensity of fog. This will also lead to the decrease in temperatures and minimum temperatures will also start curtailing down. Though the maximum temperatures which were below normal will rise considerably. Thus, it would pave way for clear weather thereby leading to the abatement of cold wave conditions that were prevailing yesterday.
Shallow foggy morning observed over National Capital on Christmas
Dec 25, 2016 07:00
For a very long time since the winters began in Delhi and it’s neighboring regions were experiencing a fog free morning. The nights as well as the mornings were extremely clear. The clear weather conditions were credited to the dry northwesterly winds which were blowing over the region. But since last 2 days, there has been a drastic change in the morning weather conditions as foggy mornings have made a comeback over Delhi. Yesterday during the early morning hours, Palam Airport reported very low visibility at a mere 100 metres. Other parts of the city also witnessed fog. But it seems like the Santa Clause has been generous this Christmas as Delhi’s gift has to be a clearish morning with very less fog. Delhi’s Palam Airport reported a visibility of 1200m. Many areas of South Delhi including RK Puram, Chandni Chowk in Central Delhi and most areas of NCR witnessed no fog. Fog has made a comeback due to the change in wind pattern; thanks to the easterlies due to the presence of a Western Disturbance over the hills of North India which is why fog has made a comeback over the national capital. Conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well with fog being recorded in many parts.
Fog makes a comeback over Delhi and NCR
Dec 24, 2016 07:00 AM
Delhi and the NCR region were enjoying a fog free morning for quite some time now. So much so that the region was observing clear mornings. These weather conditions were attributed to the northwesterly winds which were blowing over the region and keeping fog at bay. However, foggy mornings have made a comeback over the national capital. In fact. During the early morning hours, Palam Airport reported very
low visibility at a mere 100 metres. Other parts of the city also witnessed fog. So much so that RK Puram, Noida, Janakpuri, Dilshad Garden, Gurgugram and other areas witnessed shallow fog. Now, the wind pattern has changed to easterlies due to the presence of a Western Disturbance over the hills of North India which is why fog has made a comeback over the national capital. Due to this, at least ten
flights have been delayed flying to and from Delhi. Not only this, three have also been cancelled. As far as
trains are concerned, 165 trains in total are running extremely late due to fog. Conditions are expected to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well with fog being recorded in many parts.
Fog to make a comeback in Delhi-NCR
Dec 23, 2016 07:00 AM
For the past few days,
dense fog continues to give Delhi and the NCR a miss. So much so that the region has been witnessing fog free mornings for quite some time now. Friday morning was another such morning when fog remained far away from almost the entire Delhi-NCR. However, the Palam Airport witnessed moderate fog with the visibility dropping to 300 metres. These conditions could be attributed to a few localized factors including greenery and dew point which lead to the formation of fog. Due to fog at the airport at least 42 trains are running late with two being rescheduled. Not only this, three international
flights have been delayed and one domestic flight has been cancelled. There have been some areas in the national capital and its adjoining areas where shallow fog was witnessed. Faridabad and other adjoining areas did observe shallow fog. In fact, shallow fog was observed in parts of Noida as well. As per weathermen at Skymet, moderate to dense fog is expected to make a comeback soon. So much so that within the next 24 hours, the city could witness foggy mornings once again. These conditions will be attributed to the change in the wind pattern from westerly to easterly.
Another fog free morning for Delhi NCR
Dec 20, 2016 7:25 AM
As reiterated by Skymet Weather,
Delhi continued to witness fog free morning on Wednesday as well. Almost all places reported good visibility conditions. Palam Observatory reported visibility of 1500 meters, while Safdarjung observed visibility of 800 meters. Reason behind the absence of fog from the region can be attributed to the dry and cold northwesterly winds blowing over the region. Moreover, these winds have picked up pace during the last 24 hours, leading to further abatement of fog from the isolated pockets. As of now, no active Western Disturbance is seen affecting Western Himalayas, which could cut off the flow of northwesterly winds. A system is likely to affect the region but it will be a feeble one and would affect the higher reaches of
Jammu and Kashmir only. With this, similar weather conditions will prevail over Delhi NCR at least for another 24 hours.
Fog continues to abate Delhi NCR
Dec 20, 2016 7:20 AM
Dense fog has been abating
Delhi-NCR for many consecutive days now. According to Skymet Weather, in absence of any active Western Disturbance, cold and dry northwesterly winds have been blowing over entire northwestern plains. These winds are moderate in nature and did not let the formation of the
fog over the national capital. However, isolated places did witness shallow to moderate fog such as Palam Observatory, where visibility dropped to 400 meters. But this was purely based on the localized factors as it is an open area with lots of greenery. In wake of this, seven
flights that were set to depart from Delhi were cancelled, while two were delayed. Similarly, 5 Delhi-bound flight were cancelled and three were delayed. The fog will lift up very early as sun comes up and flights will start plying as per their schedule. Meanwhile, rest of places including national capital areas reported no fog with good visibility conditions. Further, we do not expect any major change in the weather in the coming days as well. No active Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayas that could obstruct the flow of northwesterlies. As a result, we do not expect dense fog to make comeback for at least next 48 hours.

Delhi-NCR wakes up to another fog free morning
Dec 18, 2016 07:00 AM
It’s been a while that the infamous fog of Delhi NCR showed up. Along with the fog, the winter chill over Delhi and NCR region seems to be on the weaker side. As of today morning the residents of Delhi NCR woke up to another fog free morning. This happens to be the sixth consecutive day where almost no fog was observed. Delhi experienced a temperature of 8.2°C temperature yesterday and today also such temperatures are expected. Having said this, few places in Noida experienced very shallow fog this morning. Areas like sector 125 and sector 37 in Noida are the areas which experienced very shallow fog.
However, the visibility was low at the Palam Airport at 400 metres during the early morning hours. Such clear weather can be experienced thanks to the dry northwesterly winds have picked up pace. This is why foggy mornings continue to remain absent from the national capital. Rest of the city including RK Puram, Dilshad Garden, Anand Vihar and parts of Gurugram recorded no fog. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist for at least the next few days. Image Credit: Instagram Please Note: Any information picked from here must be attributed to skymetweather.com

Fourth fog free morning for national capital
Dec 16, 2016 07:30 AM
It seems like foggy mornings have turned their way against Delhi and the NCR region. Fog has bid adieu to the national capital at least for time now. On Friday morning, Delhiites woke up to a clear, fog free morning for the fourth consecutive time. These weather conditions can be attributed to the dry northwesterly winds which have been blowing over the region, keeping foggy conditions far away. The entire city including RK Puram, Janakpuri, Dilshad Garden, Noida, Gurugram, East of Kailash, Anand Vihar and other parts witnessed a fog free morning. These conditions are expected to stay at least for the next two days or so. The weather will change and foggy mornings will only make a comeback when the southeasterly winds will start blowing over the region.
Dense fog abates Delhi-NCR for 3rd consecutive day
Dec 15, 2016 7:20 AM
As predicted by Skymet Weather, dense fog continued to abate
Delhi-NCR for the third consecutive day. All thanks to the continuous flow of dry and cold northwesterly winds which has kept fog at bay. However, few areas are still witnessing shallow to moderate fog. For instance, Palam Observatory reported moderate fog with visibility dropping to 350 meters but this drop in visibility was due to localized factors. Meanwhile, R K Puram, East of Kailash, Uttar Nagar, Dhaula Kuan, Green Park, AIIMS, South Extension, Rajaouri Garden, Noida, and Faridabad reported no fog with normal visibility conditions. Further, we expect similar conditions to continue at least for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir, which will again change the wind pattern to warm and humid southeasterlies. This will once again mark the comeback of fog over the region.
Fog in Delhi: Fog continues to fizzle out from Delhi-NCR
Dec 14, 2016 07:30 am
The dominant foggy weather of Delhi seems to have been fizzing out as the winter progresses. The winters started with a bang when dense fog engulfed most of the northern plains including Delhi-NCR. But dry winds from east direction are slowly making the fog disappear from the city. With fog clearing up, the temperatures are likely to go down as snowfall did occur over Gulmarg and Phalgam in Kashmir. But yesterday there was a discomfort in the weather as the minimum over the national capital was recorded at 10.4°C which happens to be 2°C above the normal. Having said this, the sky over Delhi & NCR has been clearing up since the past couple of days. At present, shallow fog has been recorded at most areas of Delhi. So it would be fine to say that the foggy weather that persisted over Delhi and NCR has lost its grip. But even with no foggy weather, at least 61 trains are running late with 7 trains rescheduled and 13 trains canceled. This is because of the persistence of fog over Indo-Gangetic plains. The train status can be checked here.
Along with trains, air traffic is also seeing delays in arrival and departure. 3 international flights and 6 domestic flights from/to Delhi have been delayed. 3 of the domestic flights have been canceled due to the low visibility thanks to the moderate fog at the airport. Check flight status here.
As per Skymet Weather, dry northwesterly winds from east direction are blowing which has led to a gradual decrease in moisture in air. Hence the fog levels over Delhi and adjoining areas have reduced significantly. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail for next 2-3 days. As of today morning, most areas of Delhi witnessed almost shallow to mild fog where open spaces witnessed dense fog while densely packed areas/localities witnessing shallow fog weather. Gradual decrease in fog continues over Delhi-NCR
Dec 13, 2016 06:40 AM
Delhi & NCR region is famous for its chilly winters. The dense foggy weather just adds to the cold wintery weather. Ever since the start of the winters, the foggy weather persisted over the National Capital along with the temperatures plummeting down. Just a few days back the city recorded its lowest minimum of the season with 7.7°C. Having said this, the sky over Delhi NCR has been clearing up since past 2 days. With this we can expect the temperature to plummet further. At present, the visibility over Delhi’s Palam observatory has been recorded at 600 metres. So we can say that the foggy weather that persisted over Delhi and NCR has finally lost its grip. But even with no foggy weather, at least 128 trains have been delayed that started their journey yesterday. This is because of the persistence of fog over Indo-Gangetic plains.
The train status can be checked here. Along with trains, air traffic is also seeing delays in arrival and departure. Delay in arrival of flights from Chennai and Hyderabad is expected due to the wrath of Cyclone Vardah. Delay in flights arriving from Varanasi, Patna and Chandigarh is expected due to fog’s persistence over the city.
Check flight status here. As per Skymet Weather, winds pattern have changed and dry northwesterly winds from east direction is blowing which has led to a gradual decrease in moisture in air. Hence the fog levels over Delhi and adjoining areas have reduced significantly. As of today morning, Noida Sector 62, Sector 18, Noida city centre, Indirapuram Ghaziabad, and old Faridabad, Mayur Vihar witnessed almost mild fog where open spaces saw dense fog while densely packed areas/localities witnessed less fog weather.

Gradual decrease in fog expected over Delhi and NCR
12 December 2016 07:40 am
The onset of winters over the northern plains particularly over
Delhi and adjoining areas have brought
dense fog with them. The national capital along with the nearby states have been engulfed under moderate to dense fog ever since the month began. People residing in the northern part of the country have been waking up to thick fog layer almost each day. With this, both maximum and minimum temperatures have been dropping speedily. It was just two days back when the capital of India witnessed the lowest minimums of the season. Dense fog over the capital of India has also led to low visibility. DelhiPalam airport recorded visibility of 200 m. Moreover, most of the rail and air traffic is also disrupted. This has also created chaos particularly amongst the travelers. Most of the flights and trains have either been canceled or delayed. Close to seven flights from the Indira Gandhi Airport, Delhi has reported late departure while two flights have canceled the departure.
Flight status can be checked here. Moreover, the arrival of three flights have been delayed by the same and three flights have reported having been canceled. The National Railways have also announced delays and cancellation of 130 trains running on their respective routes since yesterday.
The train status can be checked here. As per Skymet Weather, now, the winds are changing their pattern again and will be turning back to northwesterly from easterly, hence, a gradual decrease in the fog level is expected in Delhi and adjoining areas. This can be made out from the fact that despite the northern plains under the influence of dense fog since the beginning of the month, early morning today, thick fog was not witnessed at Noida Sector 62, Sector 18, city center, Indirapuram Ghaziabad, and old Faridabad.
Foggy mornings persist in Delhi-NCR, zero visibility at Palam
Dec 11, 2016 7:10
Delhi and NCR region continue to witness foggy mornings. Today, zero visibility has been reported at the Palam Airport, hence dense fog continues to persist over the national capital. Other parts of Delhi such as Dilshad Garden, Peera Garhi, Chandni Chowk, Faridabad and Janakpuri also witnessed moderate to dense fog. While some parts of Noida like Noida City Center reported shallow fog; Sector 62 and Indirapuram witnessed dense fog. These weather conditions can be attributed to light and warm easterly winds that are blowing over the area. As per Skymet Weather, North India will continue to witness dense fog, all thanks to a fresh Western Disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. Due to the cyclonic storm Vardah, fog will persist over East India. As far as flights are concerned at least 10 flights were delayed, that included 8 departures and 2 arrivals, while 8 flights were cancelled. Around 137 trains have been delayed since yesterday.
Similar weather conditions are expected during the next 24-48 hours as well. Thus, moderate to dense fog will persist over many parts of Delhi and the NCR region.
Delhi NCR witnesses dense fog in pockets
Dec 10, 2016 7:20 AM
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, intensity of fog has reduced considerably over most parts of
Delhi-NCR. However, few pockets continued to reel under the
dense fog. Places like Palam and Safdarjung ported dense fog with visibility dropping to 200 meters and 150 meters, respectively. Similar conditions were also reported from Noida and Indirapuram areas as well. In wake of this, 17
flights were delayed that included 13 departures and four arrivals, while one flight was cancelled. Around 109
trains are running behind the scheduled time. Rest of the places such as Dhaula Kuan, R K Puram, Vasant Kunj, Green Park, AIIMS, South Extension, East of Kailash, and Anand Vihar observed shallow fog only with better visibility conditions. According to Skymet Weather, relief from fog can be attributed to change in the wind pattern to southeasterlies over the region. All thanks to the fresh Western Disturbance affecting northern hills of Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. Further, we expect similar weather conditions to prevail over the national capital during the next two days. Thereafter, with the systems moving away, fog will make a comeback over the city again.
Moderate to dense fog persists, conditions to remain the same
Dec 09, 2016 07:00 AM
Delhiites have been witnessing foggy mornings for the past two to three days. While the visibility at the national capital has been close to 150 metres for quite some time, there has been some improvement today at the Palam Airport. Today, the visibility has been reported to be at 500 metres, thus moderate fog continues to persist over the city. Other parts of the city have also witnessed similar weather conditions. Many areas of
Delhi and the NCR region have also reported shallow fog including Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk and some parts of Noida. Meanwhile
dense fog has been reported in areas including Faridabad, Noida, RK Puram and other areas. These weather conditions are expected to persist as easterly winds will continue to blow over the area. Both air and
