Comfortable weather during the month of May is the characteristic of Bangalore city. Good pre- Monsoon showers are observed during this period and the day temperature settles at a comfortable level of 33°C.
However, in the last few days the maximum temperature had risen marginally in the city, causing discomfort to the people. This was due to a lull in weather activity, particularly in terms of rainfall. The last spell of rain that Bangalore had experienced was seven days back, on May 20, when 39 mm of rainfall was recorded. Since then the city didn’t observe a drop of rain, which made the weather conditions a little uncomfortable.
However, in the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Bangalore has received 13 mm of rain. This takes the rainfall figure in the city to 159.2 mm, which surpasses the monthly average of 110.2 mm. The rainfall figure (159.2 mm) is also the second highest recorded in last ten years. The highest is 164.2 mm, observed in the year 2006.
There is still three more days to go before the month of May comes to an end. Till then there is forecast of more rain in the city, which may help Bangalore surpass the ten-year old record of 164.2 mm.
Interestingly, Bangalore does not receive very good rain during the Monsoon. The average monthly rainfall in the city during June is just 89.7 mm, while the pre-Monsoon period of May observes 110.2 mm of rain.
