Northeast monsoon holds great significance for Tamil Nadu, as it receives its maximum rainfall during this season. This week saw two good spells of rain which were on the first two days and the last two days.

During the initial two days, November 13 and 14, the state witnessed good rain along the coastal areas and light to moderate rain over interiors parts. Chennai recorded 97 mm of rainfall on these two days, while Karaikal and Cuddalore received 122 mm and 110 mm of rain, respectively.

Meanwhile, the second spell on November 18 and 19, covered southern coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, with Pamban recording 100 mm of rainfall and Nagapattinam 30 mm.

However, similar weather conditions are not expected to prevail in the coming week. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the above sub-divisions will witness minimal rainfall activity and good showers will only be confined to extreme southern parts of Tamil Nadu.

The Northeast monsoon stretches from October to December and gives maximum amount of rain to Tamil Nadu, followed by Rayalseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka.
