Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar. Rains will now increase over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh and North Jharkhand.
The ongoing spell of rainfall in East India could be attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and neighboring areas. The easterly winds blowing over the region are also being held responsible for rain in East India.
During last 24 hours, Bhagalpur in Bihar witnessed 26.7 mm of rainfall. Forbesganj received 25.4 mm of rainfall, Muzaffarpur 15.5 mm and Purnea 59.9 mm.
Few spells of good showers were seen over Uttar Pradesh as well with Allahabad receiving 38 mm of rainfall. Gorakhpur also recorded 6 mm of rainfall and Varanasi 25.4 mm.
In West Bengal, Asansol recorded 24.8 mm, Cooch Behar 59.2 mm, Darjeeling 26.8 mm and Jalpaiguri 38.4 mm of rainfall.
According to Skymet Weather, moderate rains, with isolated places receiving heavy showers, are likely over Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, North Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Parts of Gangetic West Bengal will also witness some rainfall during next 24 hours.
Most of the places in East India were rainfall deficient till August. However, this part of the country made good recovery in September. As of now, most of the subdivisions are witnessing normal rains but Bihar is still rainfall deficient by 6%.
