Last Day Of Unseasonal Weather Activity Over Eastern Parts

February 15, 2024 3:39 PM |

Unseasonal weather activity over the eastern parts of the country will cease very soon. Earlier, the untimely activity had started from the central parts of the country, namely Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh. After lashing parts of Chhattisgarh and East Uttar Pradesh, the unseasonal showers trounced some pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. Past 24 hours, rain lashed some parts of Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal. Moderate rainfall was observed over Ranchi, Bokaro, Dehri, Daltonganj, Patna, Gaya, Chapra, Bankura and Purulia. Ranchi recorded 34mm rainfall and even Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh measured 14mm rainfall.

The unseasonal weather activity is likely to shrink in scale and intensity today.  Still, parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal will have the last bounty today. Dumka, Pakur, Deoghar, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Bishnupur, Burdwan, Midnapore, Panagarh, Malda, Bankura and Purulia are likely to have light/moderate showers. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely to accompany. Most of the weather activity will happen in the evening and night.

Under the influence of an anticyclone over the Bay of Bengal, these unseasonal showers were triggered over central and eastern parts. While, the seasonal rainfall deficiency recovered partially over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar, the adjacent states of Jharkhand and West Bengal have turned surplus for the winter season. Gangetic West Bengal has become above normal by 13% rainfall and Jharkhand a shade better with 22%.  Today’s rainfall will add to the existing surplus and further improve the margins of the winter season.

The weather activity will cease tomorrow. The support features, anticyclone over the Bay of Bengal, is shifting inland, at least for the next three days, leading to dry weather conditions. The scattered activity may resume in some pockets later, subject to the repositioning of the weather-producing system. Confirmation is only around early next week.
