Second active system of March to bring more rains and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

March 12, 2020 9:40 AM | Skymet Weather Team

During the last 24 hours, rain and snow activities have increased over many parts of Western Himalayas. The day before yesterday i.e. on March 10, only isolated light rains were witnessed by Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Now, the Western Disturbance has intensified, and it has moved over Ladakh region. Therefore, rains and snow activities have increased.

Now, we expect back to back Western Disturbances to enhance the rains even further. We expect fairly widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until the night of March 13 leading to the closure of many roads, landslides and mudslides.

By March 14, the weather activities will start reducing and the Western Disturbance will start moving away. Scattered light rains with one or two light spells are likely to continue over Western Himalayas.

By March 15, weather of entire Western Himalayas will clear up. We expect the maximum temperatures to fall by five to seven degrees at multiple places during this rain episode. This can lead to winter chill over the region once again.

After the movement of Western Disturbance, the weather will clear up. However, isolated patches of clouds will continue to prevail and the sky will remain partly cloudy for another 24 hours or so. Maximum temperatures will once again start increasing. Minimums will fall by two to three degrees. The morning and night will remain very cold. However, the day will start becoming pleasant and cool with sunny weather.
