Starting out as an endemic in the Wuhan province of China in December 2019, coronavirus is now a WHO recognized global pandemic. The number of cases are only increasing by the day. Moreover, multiple conspiracy theories are already on rounds that China might just be concealing the actual number of deaths.
Meanwhile, the common man is struggling to seek as much information as they can to save himself against coming in contact with the virus. The number of cases has increased rapidly but information on the clinical symptoms is very limited.
A new study has just rolled in, which lists out the symptoms and clinical characteristics related to coronavirus. Scientists have identified a pattern of symptoms in the 140 hospitalized patients in Wuhan. The study has been published in the journal JAMA Network.
As a matter of fact, the most common symptom is fever with 99% patients down with same.
More than half of the patients were observed with other common symptoms such as fatigue, a dry cough, muscle pain and difficulty breathing.
Difficulty in breathing comes in weeks after first showing symptoms.
Symptoms such as headaches or sore throat were observed in only a small number of cases.
The study also suggests that the virus is more likely to affect older men with preexisting health problems.
10.1% percent of patients found to have diarrhea and nausea a few days prior to the development of fever and dyspnea.
Learning more about the virus’ symptoms could help physicians identify severe cases before a person becomes critically ill. It could also help scientists better understand how the virus spreads.
The new study is the largest case series to date of hospitalized patients with the coronavirus.
