Tripping to the hill stations can be both refreshing and chilling but this is probably not a very good time to tour the hills of North India that have been witnessing heavy to extremely heavy rains from last many days. Such moderate to heavy spells have even triggered incidents of landslides in a few districts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

It was yesterday’s heavy fall that triggered a massive landslide on the Nainital- Almora highway thereby killing at least two people. While two other people are also reportedly dead in another incident of landslides. In the last 24 hours also, moderate to heavy rains wreaked havoc in the hills of North India.

These rains can be attributed to the northward shift of the Axis of Monsoon Trough. Moreover, a fresh Western Disturbance that is seen over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir also added to these rains

As of now, heavy to extremely heavy rains can be expected over the hilly states of North India for the next two days. Tourists planning to visit the hills are advised to stay cautious against incidents of landslides and cloud bursts in both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These hilly terrains are prone to such weather activities during the Monsoon season.
