After the onset of Monsoon 2017, the West Coast has witnessed a few good spells of rain. While the Konkan region has witnessed heavy rains during the month of June, Kerala could only witness a few heavy spells. All in all, the performance of Monsoon remained average for the state.

However, as we entered into the month of July, Monsoon rains have picked up pace. It seems like rain gods wanted to give the residents of Kerala a rainy surprise in the beginning of the month itself. In fact, the last 24 hours have been rainy enough for the state and Kerala on the whole has witnessed 5 percent excess rains.

These Monsoon showers are attributed to the presence of the off shore trough which is running from Gujarat to Kerala coast. Also, the Monsoon surge is also active over the state. As per weathermen at Skymet, good showers will continue over Kerala, particularly the coastal region for at least the next 24 to 48 hours.
