Kolkata has been witnessing dry weather conditions for long time now. However, the city saw some traces of rain on Wednesday.
These showers did not have any impact on the weather conditions, in fact, they resulted in a rise of humidity levels over the city. This has made the weather scorching as well as sultry.
On Wednesday, Kolkata recorded day maximums at 32.6°C, three degrees above normal. Meanwhile, morning temperatures increased significantly and on Thursday, Kolkata witnessed minimum temperature of 24.8°C, seven degrees above normal.
According to Skymet Weather, a trough has been extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to North Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal. This trough has been infusing lots of the moisture in the atmosphere.
At present also, sky is partly cloudy with good sun shine. Day temperatures will continue to rise as the day progresses.
These increased temperatures combined with moisture may lead to some isolated rain and thundershowers today afternoon as well. However, they will not be significant in nature.
On Friday also, both day and night temperatures will continue to settle above normal, leading to hot and humid weather.
Kolkata normally records an average of 30.5 mm of rain during February, but the city has remained practically dry so far in the month. Further, we do not expect any significant amount of rain in the leftover days of the month.
