Kolkata welcomes September with good Monsoon rains

The city of joy welcomed September with good Monsoon showers. On the first day of the month itself, Dumdum Airport recorded a good 46 mm of rain. Kolkata receives Monsoon rains throughout September, which means more rain is definitely in the offing for the state capital.

The month of June was not very promising for Kolkata in terms of Monsoon showers. After receiving 215 mm of rain against the monthly average of 283 mm of rain, the city of joy became 25 per cent rain deficient in June.

However, the first ten days in July were nothing less than phenomenal for Kolkata. The capital city of West Bengal recorded 415 mm of rain in just the first nine days of month surpassing the monthly average rainfall. The city’s average rainfall for July is 400 mm. This season, the city received a good 665 mm of rain in the month of July.

August began on a rainy note in the city as Kolkata received good Monsoon showers on the first day of the month. On August 1, Kolkata received 133.6 mm of rain. The month ended on a satisfactory note as the city completed its monthly average rainfall of 352.4 mm by the end of the month.

The Southwest Monsoon usually begins its withdrawal phase from September itself. But, the city of joy receives good rains in September as well. The monthly average rain for the month of September is 313 mm. Good showers are observed in the first ten days of October as well.

The weather conditions in Kolkata during September follows the same pattern as in August. The city experiences warm and humid conditions with good rains throughout the month. The average maximum and minimum for August is 32.1°C and 26.2°C, respectively. Similarly, September observes its maximum at 32.3°C and minimum at 26°C.

The first few days of September are expected to receive good rains. Light to moderate rain will continue for the next four to five days.
