After relishing back to back pre-Monsoon showers during the fag end of May, the weather of Kolkata became dry. It has been two to three days that rains have refrained from pouring over the state capital. However, now some rains are foreseen to arrive and dampen the city.
The reason for the dry spell prevailing over Kolkata can be attributed to a trough which was extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Odisha. This trough became insignificant and the dry winds from the interior regions prevailed over Kolkata and adjoining regions resulting in reducing the humidity levels and thus contributed to the rising temperature profile.
Now Skymet Weather reiterates that a trough is once again seen extending from Northwest Uttar Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal. On account of this, pre-Monsoon rains are expected to resume over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

Light rains are a possibility over Kolkata during the late afternoon or evening hours today. However, the intensity of these rains and spread is likely to increase by tomorrow onwards. In fact, by June 7 or June 8, there is a possibility of a few good showers as well.
Thereafter, these rains are expected to once again reduce resulting in an increase in the temperatures once again.
