Kolkata to witness a rainy Independence Day tomorrow

August 14, 2016 9:45 AM | Skymet Weather Team

The weather system in the Bay of Bengal, which later intensified into a depression, brought very good rains over Kolkata since the beginning of the last week. However, Monsoon rains took a backseat seat over the capital of West Bengal during last 48 hours.

During last 24 hours, Kolkata did not receive any rainfall. However, Asansol recorded 21 mm of rainfall while Midnapore received 10.6 mm.

Sriniketan in the Birbhum district of West Bengal received good rains of 58.6 mm during last 24 hours.

The depression weakened gradually and it can now be seen as a low pressure area over Jharkhand and adjoining Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh regions.

Tomorrow, on 15 August, 2016, Gangetic West Bengal will receive some rainfall once again. Kolkata will witness a rainy weather on the 70th Independence Day. Tomorrow, we can expect good rains also over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The average monthly rains for Kolkata is 352.4 mm. We cannot rule out the possibility for Kolkata to reach this figure very soon.

As of now, day maximums are hovering around 34 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature is settling around 28 degree Celsius. We can expect similar weather conditions during next 24 hours as well in Kolkata.
