Kolkata to settle with light Monsoon rains

July 18, 2017 8:30 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata had been receiving isolated light showers during the last many days. Rainfall activity was all the worse during the last 24 hours when Kolkata received just about a spell or two of light drizzle.

A low pressure area is currently seen over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Coastal Odisha and the system is likely to intensify into a well-marked low pressure area soon.

Due to this weather system, light rains are expected over Gangetic West Bengal. These rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue over the region for the next few days. Until July 16, Kolkata is rain surplus by 19 percent. Meanwhile, a fresh spell of few moderate showers is likely to commence over Kolkata by July 20.

Until that time, on and off isolated light rains will continue over Kolkata and nearby districts of Gangetic West Bengal and we do not expect any dry spell for at least next three to four days.

At present, warm and humid weather is prevailing across the city. However, both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-3 degrees which is why warm weather conditions and humidity will take a backseat by July 20.
